The letter is a great idea. It needs some revising. It must be stressed to Apple why it is in THEIR best interest to not intentionally break 3rd party. I know there is a comment on the cool factor and sales. This needs to be brought to the forefront. Say something to the effect of "having 3rd party applications widely available helps DRIVE sales of the iPhone to customers who would otherwise never have bought one for this limitation alone."

We do know that they won't spend 1 minute of man power to ensure compatability between their firmware and our hacks, so we need to tackle this from more of a financial standpoint IMHO. I'd also make the letter a lot shorter so that they may even actually read it in its entirety. This has got to look like a busines letter would look. The more professional it is presented, the better it will be received. I'd also stress to anyone signing they use a real name (first and last) and not some screen name, it just looks phony if you don't. Anyone can put a list of names on something and hand it to a company. IMHO again. It might have more impact if the email addresses were also provided to Apple.

I'm signing it anyway. This is no different than Apple TV or Newton hacking.

It is absolutely true that the 3rd party app developers ARE CREATING ALL THE BUZZ THERE IS RIGHT NOW for the iphone, which I'll bet is responsible for 50% or more of current sales. SO BE COOL ABOUT IT APPLE, work with these guys, you need them. How else do you think you're going to compete against a hardware juggernaut like the N95 coming around with video, gps, a real camera, etc, etc. (stuff me and most people miss every single day). How do you think MS dominated the world with their (compared to apple anyway) crappy hardware platform. Or are you going to make the same mistake again and let somebody else eat your lunch on a market you invented???
