Pointless endeavor. Petitions like this don't do squat. "We're not asking for a SDK but don't break our apps." Please.

It's great Apple is taking a neutral stance in the first place... they could have easily locked it all down. What we should be asking for is an official SDK so developers don't have to sidestep around Apple. I'd imagine this might actually be coming with Leopard but we'll see.

People who hack their phone should be smart enough to know how to update their software (both developers and end users) if it breaks. It's not like Apple is releasing daily software updates here either...

People are misreading into this as "Apple hates hackers so every update will break their applications." Apple is not going out of their way to prevent hacking...

Nothing anywhere that I've read said that Apple would be locking the phone down to prevent 3rd party apps. I have no idea where you got that from.

my expectations:
I don't expect Apple to actively block 3rd party apps,I also don't expect them to try to make sure every 3rd party will work. I understand that sometimes they may break by the changes they make but I expect them to be minor and something 3rd party apps folks could fix. Finally If Apple allowed for development and provided guide lines none of this would be needed.
