I would love to connect my Magellan Triton 1500 to my iPhone using the NMEA mode. First gen iPhone + Triton 1500 = awesome turn by turn directions.

You don't need wifi. It's the same as TeleNav, and just like as you use Google Maps on the move with 3G, the maps will load, although this kind of downloading maps as you go system BLOWS compared to having the entire North American Map on an SD Card like my Tilt did, but it's a step in the right direction. Imagine if they make it so you can install the whole Map of North America or wherever? Sure it's a large file, 2G's, but I'd rather have fluid map rendering as I drive than some dopey songs in my phone.

Tell ya what, I'm going to install this and give it a real test. I'm in Bethel, AK right now and flying out to rural wireless villages everyday this week. I'll let you know how well this works from a bush plane and villages who's pronunciation will make you say "bless you". Makes me wonder if Google Maps will route along the ice road ....
Also, I did have both repos earlier but even after I removed the dev's repo I still couldn't install xGPS until I opened the terminal and did:

Haha, nevermind! The GSM towers here are not setup yet to facilitate services like Google Maps.

Do you not have a computer to download the maps at base before you set out?He who asks a question looks foolish for 5 minutes. He who doesn't ask a question remains foolish forever.

i have a question.
when i have used the standard directions in the stock maps app i am past my streets before the blue dot has caught up and would miss my turning.
i have obviously not tried xgps while driving but is it faster than the maps app in some way?

Firstly congrads on the updated app, can't wait for the release.
Will this support international maps or is it only available for the U.S. like the original app?

I felt that the US had it the worst in this current version really as the Current Location function didnt work when you used it in direction computation. But with that fixed for this latest version coming out, everyone wins.

The link is from our forum and is for the current edition of the map manager. I want to say, personally, that this version is not the greatest by all means and still has some bugs. It was the first version of the Map Manager.
Come then new release here in a week or so, we will release a brand new Map Manager, designed from the ground up. It incorporates many fixes to failures of the current edition as well as many new features. So hang with us.
The current edition of xGPS and its Manager was an awesome attempt to get a feature, FREE nonetheless, that was left out by Apple. Our new revisions coming out soon makes Navigation on the iPhone a whole lot easier.
Stick with us and stay tuned!!! And thanks to everyone who has supported us thus far! We really appreciate it and without the help from our community, we would be here today!
