where is the windows and mac version of this to download the maps before the trip? i would also like to download them and find a nice map size before uploading it to my phone and using alot of space. even though i am the ONLY one who has, not 1 .mp3 on my iphone. Pandora is my fav. Dave Matthews Radio all day baby!!!

Yep, just select the iPhone 3G GPS. You'll be fine!! Its meant to operate with that. The externals are more accurate, but stick with the builtin GPS unless you are like me and primarily use your iPhone 2G (or have a iPod Touch).

? I'm not sure that they are.
When using with Google Maps they are about the same.
True SatNav uses all sorts of algorithms to keep you on the road and make it seem much more accurate.

You can find the current Map Manager here.

I must warn you, the current version is, well, the first version. Written in Java, so there have been problems, etc. There is a video user guide in the forums here, so I suggest you watch it if you have problems.

The newer map manager that has yet to be released fixes all those issues and has been redone from the ground up as far as code and GUI.

But you'll have to wait. Until then, the current Map Manager will get the job done.


(Make sure you have the latest version of Java on your CPU before using the map manager.)

As far as being more reliable (which I primarily use as my primary phone is the iPhone 2G (Only use 3G for testing and such)) I've found that overall I have had more location errors and problems with the iPhone 3G than my various external units.

I havent had an issue with my GPS showing that I was in the wrong spot with the external. Sometimes I would start up the iPhone 3G and it would let me know that I was about 50m+- off from my actual location, only working after I performed a reset of the GPS.

So I dont know. Either way, results may vary :P

okay, am I doing something wrong or the maps file sizes are HUGE!!! I tried to download the map for my city and its ~450MB.

There is a turn-by-turn navigation program in the Appstore right now called G-Map East and G-Map West, and they are only $19.95, the Maps are on board so no internet connection is required, and there's no data usage.

G-Map is downloaded via iTunes, no data charges involved. Each map is about a Gig in size. No brainer.

Although I don't like the fact that MMi has to host everything on their repo, can't you just leave it to dev's repo and not yours? It's like your trying to look big with lots of downloads.

This is how I use my map. My main phone is a 2G iPhone using the iGPS360 Module from OrangeGadgets. This is my primary phone and the one I always carry with me.

I havent had an issue using the external GPS and works really well actually. I went with theirs because A. it is cheaper than the Holux receiver and cord used to connect it to the iPhone, and B. It just works. Thats why it is the official GPS receiver for xGPS.

I just simply bought a mount for my car for the iPhone and I use it everyday. Works great.

If you are getting an Error: Size Mismatch on Cydia when trying to download the xGPS Software, make sure you only have one source for the package installed. Basically, remove the Cydia.Xwaves.net Repo and only use the now Official, MMi Repo for the xGPS Software. That will solve all your problems.

We are working on removing the xWaves Repo, as MMi is now the Official Repo!

Except, we are a default repo in Cydia so the devs great work is seen and used by many more people than it would be if it was on their repository
