i get stuck using putty.. it always gives me a network error message i cannot log on what do i do i have followed every step up to the point where it says type in ur host (ip adreess)it doesnt connect? am i missing something? is my router blocking it can anybody help?

you didn't create the /usr/local/etc directory

create this directory then copy the minirc.dfl file into it

Ok since it looks like Tmobile is cheaper and has better service here in my town, does anyone know hpw to go about switching over? Like what phone should i get to swap SIMS and what plan for internet, etc.? thanks.

are you still getting the configuration files not found error.
this error means it's not finding the minirc.dfl file
check all spelling for both the filename and directories

also check to see if you created the directories in the wrong place

it should be [SYSTEM_ROOT]/usr/local/etc/minirc.dfl

are you using putty/windows? if so then hit 'right-alt'+enter

Hmm, the only error I'm having at this point is saving to dfl. It keeps giving me the error.

Ideas anyone?

check the permissions on the dfl file it should be rw-r--r--

you can easily change the permissions of the file

chmod +w minirc.dfl

did you use the right alt button? i can't stress this enough it caused me no end of trouble.
try typing just:
AT

you should get an OK
if not then there is something wrong with the minicom or your connection to it. I found reinstalling and trying again worked for me.

Quick note about the termcap thing mentioned a couple pages back:

If you get an error about no termcap database, download Geohot's pack of files for the hardware unlock and copy the termcap database from there into the etc directory.

I tried it already and also i do get an OK when i type the AT so its connected but i keep getting an error on just that first command the second replys fine as well :-(

You may have to re-unlock the phone, sounds like something didn't write properly during the unlocking process.

The x's is where my name would been. I restored using itunes 741 and used iNepedence to activate and jailbreak and ssh. So I wanted to make sure that my user and password worked and I got that. No clue why I got that.

this means that you have reinstalled your SSH server.
you've probably already connected to a previous ssh server and now the RSA key has changed
you may have to delete your known hosts or add this one to make it work

Add correct host key in /Users/xxxx/.ssh/known_hosts to get rid of this message.

if you delete your known_hosts file it will forget all the previous hosts and ask you for new RSA keys

Just type in a Terminal window:

rm /Users/YOURUSERNAME/.ssh/known_hosts

Then try it again.
