iPhone Dev Team hours/days away from a free unlock

Check it out, now that the SimFree app has been leaked, the program is being fervishly reversed to get into it and figure out how to write to the baseband in order to create a free unlock method!

When Geohotz wrote the hardware unlock method, it was still believed the baseband was unable to be written to, so the hardware and testpoint it was. Now, everything is changed.

Amazing news! So do you guys think this will happen in a somewhat short amount of time? or what? cuz I was thinking about just paypaling 50 bucks for that software, but if i could just get it free that is so much better. what do you guys think?

Nevermind the other post, as of like 8 minutes ago it was confirmed that the free software unlock is completed and was tested. apparantly its just a matter of time before we get the URL to download it!

Ill keep checking back to that page because it is being updated very very frequently.

How long do you think till we see a windows tut on this?

I looked over the OS X one and it still appeares a lil hacker-ish.

Im guessing this all will be refined in good time to a more "user friendly" version.

Ihave my phone unlocked at the moment, but i used windows to set the free unlock up. its great and it works awesome. the only thing is I cant use EDGE at the moment. Im sure that will be fixed in the near future

You will have to manually enter your EDGE settings to get it to work. If you are on T-Mobile, you will also have to add either the Blackberry Internet Add-On or the Total Internet Package. T-Zones will not work. To manually enter your EDGE settings, go to Settings > General > Network > EDGE and then enter wap.voicestream.com for T-mobile and then leave the user name and password blank. If you look on howardforums, I am sure you can find settings for other providers.
