2.2.1 Breaks 3g Unlock, Does Not Break Jailbreak Method
MuscleNerd of iphone-dev has been updating us via his twitter account with some info about firmware 2.2.1 which was released yesterday.
- 2.2.1 does not break the dev team's methods of jailbreak.
- 2.2.1 breaks the 3g software unlock
- 2.2.1 does not break iPhone 2G unlock since the 2G baseband is not updated.
(it hasn't been updated for 8 months)
Don't Upgrade yet though . . .

Well other than the fact that they only like releasing things that are complete and usable by anyone without errors/bad side effects etc . . .
#1 Who absolutely needs it?
#2 How would they determine and verify who absolutely needs it if there are actually ppl that absolutely need it?

The update isn't anything special from what I can see, so people just need to use some patience. I could see if it added some features, but it doesn't.
Apples taste good.

Downgrade a 2.2.1
Confirmed Looks like you can downgrade from 2.2.1 to 2.2 and unlock for the 1st Generation iPhone.
Going to update back to 2.2.1 with unlock for the hell of it will report if it stays unlocked.

^^^Since there is no baseband update for the 1st gen, it won't affect the unlock. Been mentioned many times (even in the first post)

Is it safe to upgrade a 2G Unlocked iPhone? I figured it was since the baseband is not updated, but Cash said not to upgrade yet. Is that only for 3G iPhone users?

Edit: Nevermind, this is why people should read every post before posting.Last edited by NeoNightmareX; 01-28-2009 at 07:31 PM. Reason: I'm an idiot

Guys, before anyone asks any questions about upgrading (even though 2.2.1 is worthless) watch the video; its all explained there...

I guess it'll break the jailbreak anyway if I update from 2.1 to 2.2.1 ?

2.2.1 is a worthless upgrade
there is no reason to upgrade
and for the people that still dont get it
2.2.1 WILL BREAK YOUR JAILBREAKE AND FOR 3G USERS WILL BREAK YOUR UNLOCK AS IT CHANCES THE BASEBAND
FOR 2G USERS IF WILL BREAK YOUR JAILBREAK BUT IT WONT BREAK YOUR UNLOCK AS IT DOESN'T MODIFY THE BASEBAND
i dont see why ppl think they have to upgrade there phone every time apple brings out a upgrade just wait till the dev team spins there magic and comes out with the tools

About the 2G ipod touch...
Whats a 'tethered jailbreak'?
And also, why has the 2g ipod touch been so hard to jailbreak? What's different software wise about it then the 1G iPodT, 2 and 3G iphones?
