Some advice, please. My impression is that if you're using Windows XP you can only jailbreak an iPhone 3G, even if firmware is updated to 2.28.00, but you still cannot unlock it. Is this correct? I think so because I've been able to jailbreak but the unlock hasn't worked.

If the unlock isn't possible with yellowsn0w using Windows XP, what would you suggest I do? Many thanks.

The unlock runs on the iPhone through the application through cydia. So it doesn't make a diff
erence which operating system you are using.

Most other networks don't have to do this - but I'm sure some do - do you know which ones?

Not sure which ones, check earlier posts in this thread. I would check for you, but I am on my phone right now, and don't feel like wasting an hour looking.

btw for everyone on tmobile if you have the sidekick unlimited plan u can use it,works great for the edge on tmobile,so don't remove it as they upped the prices on the sidekick data

so you get unlimited text plus net for 20 instead of 35!

lol not at all my friend... all you will get is edge also on the iphone 3g.. so basically if your going to use T-Mobile with iphone/iphone3g... the only difference is the look(which is much sexier) and GPS.. that's it.. maybe reception but im not too sure.. they say that the plastic covering is suppose to help with the reception as opposed to aluminum.. but i honesty don't see a difference in that regards...

What have you tried? Are you on FW 2.2 with BB 2.28.00?

I have V2.2 and BB 2.28.00. I followed the steps outlined by Poeticfolly - jailbroke the iPhone, loaded Cydia and successfully downloaded/installed yellowsn0w and powered down/restarted the iphone. After installation of yellowsn0w, I noticed that my signal reception took a nose dive and the phone starting frequently SEARCHING for a network.

I unstalled yellowsn0w and the network reception issues disappeared. Reinstalled yellowsn0w and the network went south again. Has anyone encountered this issue? I am on the AT&T network in the NYC area.

Please advise if this is a known issue or if I am doing something wrong (although I doubt it since I followed the instructions faithfully).

Yeah. I still don't understand why the AT&T users are even bothering with doing this. Can't be that many people who are going overseas to use their phones.
