The iPhone, as well as ANY phone that uses SIM cards (GSM) will ONLY work with other GSM providers. Sprint, Verizon, Alltel, Cricket, etc etc will NOT WORK with SIM-card based devices. In the US, the only 2 carriers that use SIM cards are T-Mobile and AT&T.
Furthermore, AT&T's 3G network uses 850 / 1900 frequencies. T-Mobile uses 1700. What this means is that the iPhone 3g WILL NOT WORK on T-Mobile's 3g network. There is no software or workaround to this. The phone would need to PHYSICALLY have the 1700 hardware, which is DOES NOT.
I'm sorry if this sounds like a rant of some sorts, but I've been reading every post and every comment on this topic, and people seem to be asking the same irrelevant questions.
The iPhone Dev team has been working hard on getting yellowsn0w out and working for all of us. I am currently a T-Mobile customer, with a newer SIM, and therefore cannot make outgoing calls. But I'm waiting patiently because I know that this is not an easy process for anyone to create. Be patient, and before you ask a questions that is completely off-topic, go to Google, and search it first.
Thank you again Dev team for all of your hard work! None of us would be even close to where we are without your efforts!! Keep it up!!!
