yellowsn0w, the dev team's coveted 3G software unlock for the iPhone, is set to have a live demo today at 3PM EST (about 2 and a half hours from now). The Dev Team posted on their blog

MuscleNerd will use Qik to broadcast a live video and audio stream (from an iPhone 2G) of an iPhone 3G being soft-unlocked with yellowsn0w... if you have a question that hasn’t already been answered in our previous blog posts, please tweet them in advance to Musclenerd.

The Dev Team has previously stated yellowsn0w will only work on iPhone 3Gs that have 2.11.07 baseband or earlier (check Settings > General > About > Modem Firmware to find your baseband version). The actual yellowsn0w package will be a simple install from Cydia once its released New Years Eve.

They mean the iPhone 3G. And people that use the 3G with T-Mobile use it with a Turbo Sim or the like or have a factory unlocked version.

I've been in contact with the DevTeam (though not consistently and with a few members) and I am very proud of them. It would be interesting to discuss as I was viewing the demo that MuscleNerd had his wi-fi grayed out. Speculation suggests this has nothing to do with the unlock due to the fact that it was grayed out before as well as after the unlock. An explanation as to why a DevTeam member would operate with a grayed out wifi config would seem to comfort many and alleviate any and all pretenses of using this amazing Cydia executable easy and fast and breakthrough script. Props To the DevTeam and everyone be proud of them for releasing B4 the 09, Truly A Happy New Year.


Side Note.
I still don't personally like the 3G iPhone for physical manufacturing reasons and its fragility. I am dissappointed that when the 32GB comes out it will be 3G and not a strong !st gen iPhone. Eventually I would like to mod the OG iPhone to have that flashlight in the back like on iphone.ru and you can't do it with the 3G.

I'm not sure why I'm so excited, as I love my dependable 2G iPhone. But it is still soo cool what the Dev team can pull off. GREAT WORK!!!

Yep and now watch all these unlocking sites sell the iPhone Dev Team had work.

I just hope they put loads of copyright notice and saying its free in the app so people can get a refund.
