Why would he need to lie about something stupid like that? I mean if he were gonna lie about it I think he would at least make it sound real cool by saying something like "I walked into AT&T and walked out with a brand new iPhone 3G and no 2 year contract for $199". Im on tmobile on an 8 gig 3g with a gevey sim. For me to have an edge signal i have to : 3g off. Data roaming on. Epc.tmobile.com. Edge goes in and out and works for a day at the most. With this software unlock, my edge will be reliable 24/7 ? and also will i still have to set 3g off data roaming on etc..

iPhone 3G 8GB is around £342(around$670) here in England on payngo with 12 months wifi and internet and with the software unlock coming, I'm pretty tempted to buy a 3G but I love my 2G sooo much.

As long as the phone is already activated then I don't see why not. I was able to connect to iTunes with my T-Mobile SIM card and Gevey3G adapter installed and a software unlock is a lot better than a hacked sim adapter so yeah I don't see that being an issue.

same question, and yes 3g has to be off all the time because we dont have acess on tmobile 3g network, i think its 1700 or something like that.

Jailbreaking = Allows you to install unapproved apps (from Cydia, for example)
Unlocking = Allows you to use the phone with any carrier (in the US, that means AT&T or T-Mobile)

Since you're on AT&T already, you need not worry about it.
