Monopoly in the AppStore

MMi member thetoothfairy noticed Monopoly is now live in the AppStore (link opens iTunes) - this is fresh! So fresh, it seems, AppStore won't even let me download it yet from the iPhone - although I was able to get it from iTunes and sync.

The app, made by EA for the iPhone, is selling at $7.99. The full title is MONOPOLY Here and Now: The World Edition.
Apparently instead of Baltic, Reading Railroad, and Broadway, you're now purchasing Istanbul, Turkey, and Greece. The game graphics are a bit on the cheesy side, with some rough edges on the animations, but it is very playable and fun. I'd love a way to turn off the rather annoying really cool player animations after each roll - I'm good with just once seeing the windmill fly to Istanbul.

You can listen to music from your iPod library while playing the game, and play up to 4 live players (with one phone - puff puff pass, yes. you can also hook up via wifi) or vs the computer. Saving game state is included, and the controls are intuitive enough once you've gotten used to what does what. The little Monopoly man (I'm sure he has a name - yup, Wikipedia knows all) Stanley Monopoloy aka Toby aka Rich Uncle Pennybags gives you hints on how to play as you start, which helped to not have to push random buttons over and over again to see which was which. After a couple rounds, the game is rather addicting. The save game state makes it worth it - too long to play a whole game in one bathroom break.

EA also has Scrabble, TETRIS, The Sims Pool, and more in the AppStore, with Trivial Pursuit on the way. Apple continues to position the iPhone as a mobile gaming device.

If I didn't see the cracked version of this the other day or this post, I would have never realized this was in the App Store, there's just tooooooo much crap in the App Store.
Btw, I think this cracking apps business is getting out of hand.

tested it out last night, great playing. sorta repetetive, but the graphics are great and if you get emotionally attached to the gameplay it will be fun. Its monopoly, nothing more nothing less. Sans the world edition.

Just to let everyone know you MUST be on 2.2 in order for this app to work. just a heads up. its part of apples new "herding" program to force everyone into 2.2
