You MAY NOT Sync Without iTunes

Some people don't like iTunes. Some other people decided to start discussing how to sync music to their libraries on the iPhone and iPod Touch without iTunes. Some more folks at Apple decided that iTunes must be the only option and shut down development discussion for syncing without iTunes.
Users over at Bluwiki were having discussions on a few pages about how to sync media onto the iPhone and iPod Touch from sources other than iTunes. According to the Apple lawyers these discussions violated the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA) which is in place to stop the writing of code and sharing of information that could potentially be used to bypass copyright protection (funny that Apple is getting rid of DRM at the same time).
From Apple to Bluwiki (click here for more emails):
Unfortunately for all of you interested in syncing media from places other than iTunes Bluwiki has complied to Apple's demands and taken down the pages as requested by Apple. On the plus side it is possible that discussion may be able to resume in the future since the Electronic Frontier Foundation has agreed to represent Bluwiki on the matter.Mr. Odio:
We represent Apple Inc. ("Apple"). It has come to our attention that a
website you operate, www.bluwiki.com, is disseminating information
designed to circumvent Apple's FairPlay digital rights management
system. This information is available at
http://bluwiki.com/go/Ipodhash.
FairPlay is considered anti-circumvention technology under the Digital
Millennium Copyright Act. The DMCA explicitly prohibits the
dissemination of information that can be used to circumvent such
technology.
Apple therefore requests that you immediately disable the thread at
http://bluwiki.com/go/Ipodhash. Please notify me by reply e-mail once
you have done so, and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
/s/ Ian Ramage
This is also bad news for those of us that have been watching the progress of PwnPlayer eagerly. A possible future update to PwnPlayer would include the ability to sync music downloaded via dtunes or mewseek into your iTunes Music library on the iPhone. Undoubtedly if that feature was ever completed PwnPlayer would become a target in Apple's legal sites for the same reasons mentioned above
thanks Derrick for the tip!

whatever. apple just keeps getting worse and worse with thier crap. They just refuse to accept that people may want something different. could you immagine buying a car and having the manufacturer tell you that you cant to anything to the car or take it anywhere else for repairs....even though you bought the car. Apple needs to get over this crap. not likely gonnna happen but these are the things i use in defense when people tell me macs are better than pc's. take your macs and your apple products....and love them...and bow down to what apple tells you. you see mac users arent becoming less and less unique with no chance for diversity (other than the fact they use a mac) everything is so locked down. Apple is literally trying to OWN its customers. I cant really express my real feelings about this whole thing because that would not be appropriate here but just know that apple gets a giant thumbs down and frown from me.
"It just works".......because they are the only ones allowed to make it work THIER wayThe beatings will continue until morale improves.

"Think Different"
Just not with our hardware.

Mac only user here since 1994!
No Apple emerged in the end 80s and 90s as "THINK DIFFERENT" more for artists and less office like, their original philosophy was to create tools for artists with artists, and opened their software for lots of new development in the early years. Apple stood for standing up to the man, revolute against the system and be very liberal overall. This changed when Jobs got fired in the 90s , the new CEO run Apple to the ground with stock under $20 or so. Then they hired back Jobs and new iMacs and Power Macs where born. With that apple started growing and growing and their only goal now is PROFIT to keep stock holders happy! So watch out apple, one day someone comes along and pushes you of your high horse. It happend to all big greedy companies. One disasters release on any big product like the iPhone and Apple will go down fast.

I really like the way itunes looks and works as far as playlists and things like that. For buying music never. I need to be able to put that music on any device I have not just apple products. I also do not like having to jump threw hoops to share music on my own network or even multiple accounts on the same computer.
I guess my only problem with iTunes is I can only use it with ipods and iphones. Most of my problems are with DRM and I'm not paying a premium for DRM free music.

I hate itunes as well. I think the design looks nice, and the features can be ok BUT its horrible software. Its no different to bloatware/crapware that comes preinstalled on most pc's nowadays except we are forced to use it if you want one of their devices. I wish they would just strip it down to a program that actually performs. My pc is not slow by any means but damn does iTunes hogg as much resources as possible.
Really?

Syncing via exchange for calendar, contacts, and mail. App store or ********** for application installs. Pwnplayer for music and uploading via diskaid or SSH. Who needs itunes except for firmware changes?
