Can anyone confirm if Winterboard & Categories work with 2.2?
If I can't mod it...I don't want it.

I never could get the 2.1 firmware upgrade to work on my 1st gen iphone (through Pwnage). I didn't dare use quickpwn since if that didn't work I'd basically have a paperweight. So can I upgrade to 2.2 from wherever I am now (2.0) I assume? BTW, I'm still on a 1st gen phone. Please help.

After several unsuccessful tries to jailbreak my iphone 3g by using the standard Pwnage Tool, I was able to successfuly jailbreak my iphone 3g using QuickPwn. However, After reading some of what's been said on this thread, I still don't really understand the difference between the two.
Could someone give me a simplistic answer as to the difference between the standard Pwnage and the QuickPwn methods of jailbreaking an iPhone 3g?
Thanks.

I just figured it out. I finally got passed the building IPSW with out "fail".
I found this on the Dev site:
"NOTE: ‘Simple Mode’ in PwnageTool currently only works for the iPod Touch. To use PwnageTool for iPhones you will need to use ‘Expert mode’. This is a workaround while we make an update and fix this issue. In order to do this you will need to navigate to the ‘General’ window and change two things: Deselect ‘activate’ ONLY if you are normally able to activate through iTunes (but if you wish to ‘hacktivate’ the iPhone using PwnageTool then leave it selected). You will also need to change the partition size to about 1000MB (type in the value or use the slider)."
Worked like a charm.

I must say its a simple process and definatly worth doin for me the street views is off the hook and the overall responsiveness of the phone is faster.
For those with t-mobile and 2nd Gen iphone with a mac or Hackintosh using leopard 10.5.3 this may help you.
What's Needed:
First be sure you have quickpwn 2.2 for MAC
Second make sure you have f/w 2.2 I used this one
LINK
What to do:
I used iTunes 8 ran the shift/restore method and chose the firmware.
when it finished I opened QuickPwn ran that and Done!
Very simple process.
My iPhone:
Unlocked --> T-Mobile, Jailbroke with 2.2 firmware - running greatLast edited by bklynjava; 11-22-2008 at 10:49 PM.

I just got my 2G 8GB iPhone that was on Tmobile replaced today at the Apple Store and they have me a new 2G 8GB iIPhone with 2.2 firmware.
1/ How do I activate it (I do not have an AT&T contract)?
2/ Which process do I use to unlock?
3/ Which process do I use to jailbreak?
I am a bit of a novice as my friend (who is now out of the country) did it all for me before. I have spent hours reading the forums today; tried the Liberty+ but shut it down after 30 min and it was still on the 1st step and I restored to factory defaults that forced me to 2.2.
Any guidance will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I can_not get PwnageTool to compile my custom .ipsw
I keep getting "I haz fail"
Tell me what I'm doing wrong:
Laptop running 10.5 Leopard, installed the newest pwnagetool for 2.2
I open it (I have it in my applications folder) and select the 5G77 firmware I downloaded, I do everything according to the guide (This is definitely not my first time doing this) and it goes through all the normal stages and then chokes.
Pleas help, I want 2.2 goodness!
What the log says:

Apple's case seems to be quite sad when I have the hacks downloaded and installed 15 minutes BEFORE the product they were intended for...
5/5 on the release time. <3Last edited by Crosseyes; 11-22-2008 at 10:52 PM.
