If quickpawn gets stuck on the jalibreaking screen after putting your phone in recovery mode then the easy way to get the phone out of the recovery mode without restoring it is to run the old quickpawn 2.1 and follow the instruction. basically holddown the home and power button for 15sec and then the power button for 2 sec and that is it.

PS. i am still unable to jailbreak my phone with qucikpawn 2.2. it becomes unresponsive once the phone is in recovery mode.

Finally got it. i used windows xp for winpawn and it worked like charm. so the bottom line is that vista doesnt really work with winpawn 2.2

Updated to 2.2

Sweeeet!!!
You guys rock big time!!
I was surprised that updating with iTunes kept the iPhone up and running (I'm on T-mobile) and QuickPwn did the rest.
Sooo smooooth.
I'm hoping for the 3G unlock soon (I bought my new 3G three months ago and I've kept it in the box since).
Thank you guys for the hard work.
Keep it up!!

Turbo sim

My 'Locked' iPhone 3G is being used with a chip installed under the sim (turbo sim, they call it) and came jail broken with firmware v2.1.

Will the imminent 'soft unlock' get rid of the 'turbo sim'??

If not, how do I get rid of it?

Also, if I want to upgrade to 2.2 keeping the basband preserved, do I use the pwnage tool with the turbo sim inserted or without it?

Thanks a lot!

so in short i can get 2.2 jailbreak on my 3G, but no network/phone??? so its gonna be like a ipod touch?
Thanks for posting this problem. Well i donnno wht actually happened. I think now its upgraded to 2.2 through itunes accidently. Even after jailbreaking with Quickpwn2.2 still i cannot get any signal No network.
I tried to downgrade the baseband through
ZiPhone_patched_by_kIREmK_04.05.04_G
but it failed. It detects Iphone and then when it says entering in DFU mode nothing happens and Connect to itunes icon appears on IPhone.
I feel helpless now and noting seems to be working.
Is there anyway i can bring my IPhone 3G back to life.
Is there any solution upcoming by iphone dev team for such issues.

I've been Jailbreaking and jailbreaking my iPhone 3G to version 2.2 but no matter how I do it, I still can't get Cydia to launch. It was fine when I jailbroke with V2.1. What gives?
Thanx.

The DevTeam has released Pwnage Tool and QuickPwn 2.2 (Windows folks only have QuickPwn).

We are uploading mirrors now, and will get you links ASAP. I'll have a full guide on upgrading from 2.1 to 2.2 here in the next hour.

edit: 3G Jailbreak Guide is here
1st gen Jailbreak Guide is here

A few cautions:

DO NOT USE QUICKPWN if you want to have a potential software unlock on your 3G iPhone anytime soon. QuickPwn will update your baseband to the new one included in the 2.2 update. This == bad. Use PwnageTool to create a custom 2.2 firmware. OS X guide will be up soon.

ONLY UPDATE TO 2.2 WITH PWNAGE TOOL AND A CUSTOM IPSW if you want a 3G unlock. If you update with the official .ipsw or the regular "update your firmware" that pops up in iTunes, or you use QuickPwn - your baseband just got updated, which means NO software unlock anytime soon.

DO NOT USE QUICKPWN and ONLY UPDATE TO 2.2 WITH PWNAGE TOOL AND A CUSTOM IPSW if you want to be able to unlock your 3G soon. Just saying it again so you can't say we didn't tell you.

Guide soon...

iPhone 3G 2.2 Firmware
iPhone 2.2 Firmware

Non-Member Mirrors:

PwnageTool 2.2 | OS X
QuickPwn 2.2 | OS X
QuickPwn 2.2 | Windows
So people with a PC/Windows OS can't upgrade the firware to 2.2 because they can't use QuickPwn ? Then how do PC users upgrade then ?

I think what he is asking is where is the pwnage for windows tool. The post says you can use Quickpwn/Windows if you aren't wanting a soft unlock in the future. I believe he is looking for that unlock and wants to know what to do since he can't use Quickpwn.

The same thing happend to me! I tried building a custom file on my macbook.
I downloaded the pwnage tool from modmyi.
I downloaded the BL from three different sites and it kept telling me that it was the wrong v3.9 file! I gave up and used qwkpwn on y vista machine
