Do I need to remove the 5 icon dock before I do a back up in iTunes, or can I just back up with the 5 icon dock, restore to 2.2, re-jb, then use my iTunes back up? If I have used apt backup how does that play into all of this? Thanks for any advice on best way to do this.

P.S. If I have a custom theme, should I save it on my PC and then just re-add it to themes after I've restored everything? Thanks again.

yes just ssh into your apps folder and copy all the files there
then once upgraded shh them back and set file permissions
or there are apps that do this for u
i forget the names of the top of my head some thing like time capsule i think its called

its called AptBackup, in Cydia, its under System through the BigBoss package

instructions are pretty easy, after install, hit backup, syc with itunes, upgrade/jailbreak, instal AptBackup thru cydia and hit restore. Aptbackup then reinstalls all ur apps

Since alot of people dont have Macs, and you need one to run pwnagetool
and alot of people have iphone 3g's who dont want to upgrade the baseband.
would someone be able to create a custom .ipsw without the baseband upgrade and upload it and post the link here?
that would be really helpful for all the non-mac users here.

for some with with 643 posts i thought u would no how the game works
once u update u loose your jail break which means u cant run homebrew appps
u need to jailbreak your phone before you can run homebrew apps
once jailbroken your 2.2 iphone will behave just like it did before you upgraded

not really cuz I just started using cracked apps on 2.1 so....

Just used quickpwn to jailbreak my 2.2 3g. I went to pee came back and it was done, quickest yet and working great!!! No complains so far, of course besides the mms and copy and paste....

Okay I am curious. I've posted a couple of places that I got a new out-of-the-box replacement 2G phone from Apple two weeks ago and it cannot be Unlocked. It can be jailbroken but not Unlocked.

Does t have anything to do with the warning not to update to Apple 2.2 if you wanna Unlock? It came with Apple 2.1 code on it and I've taken it up and down to 2.0 & 2.1 Custom with no problem other than it is never Unlocked. That is it will only work with my AT&T SIM in it. I will not work with my TMobile SIM in it.

That is sort of my problem also. I got a unjailbroken/locked 2g, 16g iphone from ebay, i ran the quickpwn and selected the jailbreak, and unlock option...my understanding was that i could then insert my tmobile sim and it work just fine...but it wont let me, it wants me to go back through itunes to activate the new sim card.I dont know much this stuff, but i thought i did understand, if someone knows what to do, should i still upgrade the firmware and redo the jailbreak and unlock, or will it still be locked?????

WTF? For all the previous firmwares the question is already asked and answered before I read about it.

This is the iphone forum and this is an iphone question. It's not a torrent question which is where I get my apps from.

It's also an easy question that someone would've tried aleady.
If they dont work I wont upgrade. Easy as that.


Oh, do the new features work with the 2G iPhone? Someone else said the street view didnt work and neither did podcast. So why do we need to upgrade?

hmmm still cant get swirllyMMS working
i ssh into the apps folder and set the permissions for the folder to 0777 and when i start up swirly it says that i need to reboot the phone after installation (which i have already done)
then i power off the phone and restart it and it does the same thing as b4
guess theres some thing up with it
guess im waiting on a update
any one else having this problem

UPDATE
just did some reading on swirlys website and its a known fact its doesnt work on 2.2

also having some minor issues with bossprefs
i try to turn wifi off and it just doesnt turn off
even if it says its off it remains on have to manually do it
hopefully its reeally turning off shh dont want my battery drained
they have submitted the updated to cydia so it should be appearing soon
so happy i paid for this app

You should quickpwn after a fresh upgrade to 2.2 and BEFORE YOU SYNC.

This is for all who are having issues with the phone getting stuck on boot after quickpwn. After quickpwn finishes then you can sync.

YAY!!! IM BROKEN!!! damn itunes did me dirty this am. I lost my music. It didnt show up. It just showed that I had "other" space of 7Gb of music, but couldnt play it. but I degress, Im running 2.2 now, so ill put my music back on now. thanks guys
