Thanks for the files and info.My first gen iPhone is now on 2.2 The whole process couldn't be simpler.Everything went smoothly using windows xp.

The DevTeam has released Pwnage Tool and QuickPwn 2.2 (Windows folks only have QuickPwn).

We are uploading mirrors now, and will get you links ASAP. I'll have a full guide on upgrading from 2.1 to 2.2 here in the next hour.

A few cautions:

DO NOT USE QUICKPWN if you want to have a potential software unlock on your 3G iPhone anytime soon. QuickPwn will update your baseband to the new one included in the 2.2 update. This == bad. Use PwnageTool to create a custom 2.2 firmware. OS X guide will be up soon.

ONLY UPDATE TO 2.2 WITH PWNAGE TOOL AND A CUSTOM IPSW if you want a 3G unlock. If you update with the official .ipsw or the regular "update your firmware" that pops up in iTunes, or you use QuickPwn - your baseband just got updated, which means NO software unlock anytime soon.

DO NOT USE QUICKPWN and ONLY UPDATE TO 2.2 WITH PWNAGE TOOL AND A CUSTOM IPSW if you want to be able to unlock your 3G soon. Just saying it again so you can't say we didn't tell you.

So people with a PC/Windows OS can't upgrade the firware to 2.2 because they can't use QuickPwn ? Then how do PC users upgrade then ?

I think what he is asking is where is the pwnage for windows tool. The post says you can use Quickpwn/Windows if you aren't wanting a soft unlock in the future. I believe he is looking for that unlock and wants to know what to do since he can't use Quickpwn.

Help! I'm trying to update using pwnage tool and it won't let me start building an ipsw because it can't find the bootloaders. I've downloaded them but pwnage tool says it's the wrong file....anyone have any ideas?

The same thing happend to me! I tried building a custom file on my macbook.
I downloaded the pwnage tool from modmyi.
I downloaded the BL from three different sites and it kept telling me that it was the wrong v3.9 file! I gave up and used qwkpwn on y vista machine

When Pwnange says it can't fine the bootloaders 3.9 and 4.6 and asks to search the web click NO-

Hey guys i need some major help ive been searching but i cant find anything. what keeps happing is when i run quickpwn i get to where it put phone in recovery mode but thats it after that its as if quickpwn doesnt recognize my phone anymore im using windows vista and im not noob so i dont need the flames just if you could help me that would be great

winpwn, but it hasn't been updated.
If you dont want to quickpwn, and have windows then just look for a custom ipsw online.

Custom 2G IPSW:

Activate, Unlock, Cydia ONLY, and Original Boot Logos.

I have it running on TMo with no problems.

IT SAYS IF YOU WANT TO UNLOCK LATER DO NOT USE QUICKPWN (3G iPhone only ). If you are on a legit carrier and do not care about unlocking then use quickpwn.
