Thread: Firmware 2.2 JAILBROKEN

Okay, I'm confused after reading through the 40 pages of this thread.
I have a 2G iPhone on FW 2.1 that I have Pwned. I use it on Tmobile. Do I need to create a custom FW and use PwnageTool (which is the way I have done these firmware updates), OR I can just update from iTunes then use OuickPwn? There is no guide yet for us 2G owners, and the guide from iClarified uses PwnageTool.
If I can do either PwnageTool or QuickPwn, which is a better method?
Thanks!

Help...
I just traded my 2G iPhone for a 3G. Little did I know it came with 2.2 already installed!
I wish to unlock it in the future. Any luck of it being able to downgraded to 2.1?
Any help would be great.

Either way is fine I believe.
I did mine last night just fine and I have the same setup as you. 2G phone, unlocked, jailbroken, 2.1 FW, on TMobile. Leave your SIM card in the phone and open iTunes and update to 2.2. When that's done, download the QuickPwn exe and the bootloaders. Run QuickPwn and follow the directions.

is 2.2 mandatory. in order to UNLOCK?/
So....will all those jailbroken with 2.1 firmware, still be able to "UNLOCK", when the unlock software finally is released? or is 2.2 mandatory to apply the UNLOCK? thanks for your time, have a bright business day! Vi_T8

I know this is probably a stupid question but I am new to this. If I update via itunes and jailbreak using quickpwn, what exactly is the repercussion? I keep hearing "Don't use Quickpwn if you want a soft unlock in the future" but I don't know what this means. Does this mean that I won't be able to unlock for a different carrier? If so I don't really care about that as long as I keep cydia and installer. What should I do?
EDIT: If I update via iTunes will I lose all of my apps from AppShare?Last edited by loren83; 11-25-2008 at 08:32 PM.

Yes if you update via itunes, you will not be able to unlock.
when you update you will need to re-jailbreak. There s a chance your apps will still be there, however upgrading takes up unneccessary memory!!
I would just restore and redownload.
PSSSSST..... No talk about cracked apps, you can get in trouble.I'm not a Genius, but I can sure pretend to be one!
If I helped you please press Thanks!

First I want to THANK the DEV. Team.
But I am having a bit of trouble. I tried searchiing the forum first and now my eyes are crossed. I have updated my phone to Firmware 2.2 and everything is working, except my phone. I can accept phone calls but when I try to open the phone up. It opens then closes quickly.
Weird...what the hEck is up?
low down on phone.
2G 16Gig was firmware 1.1.4 then updated to Firmware 2.2. using Windows.
Any help is much help.

Thanks everyone for the posts.
I tried to restore with 2.1 and kept getting an error at the end. I got stuck in recovery mode and finally found an answer and was able to start it back up.
Upon checking my firmware it said I was at 2.1 =

I have a question about the modem firmware. In 2.1 for a 3G it says 2.28.00.
Was this updated to the 2.2 modem firmware or what is the 2.2 modem firmware?
I would hate to do it all over again to find out its the same.

Code retard posted this> http://www.coderetard.com/2008/07/14...-and-baseband/
Can something like this be done to the iphone 3g to downgrade it? or could one just follow these steps to downgrade the baseband?Last edited by jmano0o; 11-25-2008 at 10:45 PM.

Probably a dumb question, but I have an iPhone 3G running on 2.2. If I jailbreak and then apple release say 2.3 and I update before jailbroken again. What will happen to my iphone 3G? Will it be working normal just not jailbroken?

VolPover3G seems not working after upgraded to 2.2;
Categories also apparently not able to hide Apps after updating Apps.
