Thread: Firmware 2.2 JAILBROKEN

So, if we have window we have to use Quickpwn, right?
If this is the case, then we have to wait still until the new one is avaliable, or are we able to go ahead and start the process?
sorry for asking, but i see 2 different things, one saying here is the new 3G jailbreak, and then something else saying there is no jailbreak for the 3G
thanks

no, whats going on is if you do the jailbreak through quickpwn on a 3G, you won't be able to unlock it later on down the line, if you so desire. if you have no intention of unlocking it, or aren't worried about the potential for a possible 3G unlock, then go ahead and use quickpwn on your windows...and if you're on a non att, using turbo sim or something of that nature, then you need to look into the other process...
i hope that makes senseLast edited by tw1zt3d; 11-24-2008 at 01:49 AM.

I had no problem updating my phone from 2.1 to 2.2 but my girlfriend's is stuck in an endless reboot. Went from 2.0.1 to 2.2. Anyone know how to get out of that?
*Edit*: Okay, I managed to downgrade to 2.1 and things worked fine. Back up to 2.2 and constant reboots....?
*Edit 2*: Fixed. PwnageTool 2.2.1 custom firmwares gave me issues. Made ONE with PwnageTool 2.2 and no problem at all.Last edited by Monkiki; 11-24-2008 at 02:37 AM.

About CALLER ID issue with 2.2 :
I had a problem till 15 mins ago. At 2.1 I had PhoneNumberTemplates.plist
and UIMobileCountryCodes.plist modded for many countries. For my country (Serbia) too. At 2.2 - didn't work!
Solution?
BEFORE "shift+restore" to 2.2:
Copy 3 files:
1. PhoneNumberTemplates.plist
2. AppSupport
(from /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AppSupport.framework)
3. UIMobileCountryCodes.plist
(from /System/Library/Frameworks/UIKit.framework/PhoneFormats)
FROM UR 2.1 WORKING firmware and save somewhere... desktop is fine...
do the magic with 2.2.
first thing (PUSH OFF!!!) - it can stack... don't know why...
then copy those saved files to the same locations OVER existing files.
then you can (if you need) push ON.
Thats all. Working like a Rols...
Glad if I helped.unix

Tmob 2G 2.02 to 2.2 with QuickPwn = Success
I followed iclarified's tutorial
got some error along the way. restoring from itunes got an error. Just re-restore it again.
error on Quickpwn during jail break. re-did. Worked.
I want to use my own custom boot logo but there's no option to insert one

Ok, I promise whoever found this will be thanked.
I had jailbroken iphone 3g on 2.1 and updated to 2.2 before jb was released, I realized that all apps that had been hidden using poof were still hidden. Also after jailbreaking I noticed there was a problem with Big Boss. Thanks to someone further back in this thread an answer was found.
Go to general settings and activate restrictions, then respring/reboot and deactivate restrictions and that's it, all my hidden apps came back and BigBoss started working.

So I read the first 2 pages of this thread, and it seems like deja vu all over again (yes, notice the repetitiveness of my redundancy). The same questions constantly get asked, repetitively, when the process either 1) doesn't change, or 2) is self explanatory or explained in full in the thread. It makes it VERY difficult to find responses from people who have legit non-user-error problems. It seems the influx in iPhones due to their low price has given us an influx in the unintelligent questions department. As I said, I stopped reading after page 2, but just for in case it wasn't quite cleared up between then and now...
If uPhone = 3G
If You = Legit
Quickpwn/PwnTool/Whtvr
Else If You = Not Legit
U Haz PwnTool
Else If uPhone = 2G
If You = Legit
QuickPwn/PwnTool/Whtvrkthx
Else If You = NoLegit
If uPhone = Pwned
Update-qPwn/PwnTool
Else If uPhone = NoPwn
PwnTool
End
If that's not correct, it's 4:20AM and i'm tired. :P
With that said, A+ job dev's for another quick release.
Try going into the advanced options, and up the size of your root partition. Aim high.
With PwnTool, did you change the size of your root partition?
With QuickPwn, are you trying to QuickPwn with a stock firmware file right from apple, or a Pwned/Altered firmware? If using an altered one, try using a stock firmware file. I do believe they're hosted on this site.Last edited by LeeDude; 11-24-2008 at 03:27 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

There are 2 methods for jailbreaking from our lovely dev team. One of them (PwnTool) includes the (potential or extremely more feasible) ability to unlock as well (for use on other carriers), by preventing a baseband update.
There is a method for windows to JAILBREAK a 3G iPhone. Unfortunately, the method to jailbreak while preventing a baseband update isn't available yet. Yes, you can jailbreak your 3G iPhone. But it's not advised to use QuickPwn if you're not a legit ATT (or whatever your regions carrier is) customer.

can't someone create a custom firmware file with pwnage tool that has hactivation checked (for non at&t users), no custom boot logos, cydia only, no baseband update.
That way windows users will be able to jailbreak their phones without the need for a baseband update.

Answer to my own question woot
3G iPhone 8gb will restore from 2.0.2 to 2.2 with no issues.
I used the link for custom firmware (legit carrier, 500mb partition, no frills with cydia and installer) and put the phone into DFU mode. Attempted shift restore with error code 1611. Restarted the phone while it was still connected to itunes. When booting was complete, attempted shift restore with phone on home screen. Itunes put the phone into recovery mode and loaded a clean install of 2.2 while maintaining baseband of 1.45
Works very smoothly, limited calling on it so far, no issues.

Question on Basebands
I have a question.
I originally got the first 3g iphone that came out but the battery went bad and so I took it to the apple store and they replaced it with one that had firmware 2.1 already installed.
My question is:
1. Since it had 2.1 alreayd on it does it mean the baseband now wont allow a possible future software unlock?

There is a custom ipsw for windows on page 20 by tattoojack, & I have repeatedly asked if it only updates the firmware & not the baseband... I also was WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS UPDATED THEIR 3G TO 2.2 & THEIR HARWARE UNLOCK (ISIM, SMARTSIM, GEVEY, TURBOSIM) ARE STILL WORKING. I see a few people said there's weren't, but they kinda sounded like neewbs so I want someones input that has done the update & does, or doesn't have service now trying to use a hardware unlock... Thank you!
HELLO? Has anyone done this...
