Is this gonna update my baseband? I wanna leave the option open for a software unlock in the future & hopefully still be able to use my isim hardware unlock till then... Thanks.
Are you using a 3G phone? I want to upgrade my 3G 16g & have the custom 2.2 ipsw that tattoojack posted, but now I'm reading that peoples sim/hardware unlocks are not working after upgrading. Any help would be great. Thank you.Last edited by infamous12550; 11-23-2008 at 11:03 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Things went smoothly as usual... Thanks Dev Team. Took about 15 minutes and now I'm just re-installing all of my Cydia apps. Has anyone found anything that is not compatible with 2.2?

So i upgraded to 2.2, despite what I said earlier about waiting. I updated because a buddy of mine did and his phone is working fine. I have the 1st generation 8GB iPhone running on T-Mobile.
I'm on a PC, and what I did was:
1. Backed up the phone.
2. Make sure nothing is hidden in the Poof apps, move the 5th apps from the dock.
3. Update iTune to the latest version.
4. Conect the phone and updated it to 2.2, ***NOT RESTORE***
5. After it runs its course and the phone reboots, eject the phone from iTune and close iTune.
6. Your phone should still be unlocked and/or jailbroken, mine was. Fire up Quickpwn and follow the instructions to install Cydia/Installer(yuck)/Boot Logo and whatnot. Boom, done.
All the apps from the app store and Cydia are working fine so far, including SwirlySMS. I had my T-Mobile sim in the phone during the updating process. After I Quickpwn it and got Cydia on it I installed the BIND DNS Server and OpenNTPD. If you guys got any questions let me know. And I hope this helps.
And a big shout out to the Dev Team and everyone involved. Thanks.Last edited by JunkieXLR; 11-23-2008 at 11:37 PM. Reason: Gotta give props where it's due.

If anyone has ANY idea why I cannot use Pwnage, please help me out.
I have a Macbook Pro and ever since Pwnage dropped for 2.0 when the 3G was released, I have not been able to jailbreak my phone with Pwnage. I actually quit using my 3G until QuickPwn came out. I was going to sell it.
I get Error 6 when restoring every time, on every 2.x build, on every version of Pwnage. This is my second 3G as I broke my first one, and the first one did the exact same thing. I've tried every USB port, every method to put in Restore AND DFU mode I can find. I have 3 iPhone cables and none of them worked.
I cannot figure it out, but with apps and everything else, my partition needs to be bigger, and as simple as it is, I can't seem to figure it out.
Any help is appreciated.

Done jailbreak and unlock in less than 10 minutes. Everything went well and phone's been working as smooth as it can be. It's funny that my hacked first generation iphone no longer requires softwares (Pwntool or Quickqwn) to jailbreak and unlock. Yes, this sounds very weird but it just works. Now I update (by clicking update instead of restore) my hacked phone as if it were an ATT contracted, locked one. I experience no errors whatsoever and the phone works like a charm. A bit of info about the phone - it was purchased in September of the last year (with 1.0.2 firmware by default) and jailbroken and unlocked shortly after. After updating to 2.0 by using Pwntool by Dev Team, my phone works without any problem and has never got locked by a new firmware again. Simply iTunes recognizes it as an ATT phone. I'm throwing my case out here in case if anyone had similar experiences before. Well, thanks! Dev Team and Modmyi.com. Without you my iphone is nothing

Oh and I'm from Canada so screw Rogers and Fido's ridiculous 3G plans!Last edited by randy182; 11-24-2008 at 12:00 AM.

I upgraded from 2.1 to 2.2 and whenever I'm in a call I cant get online. Then when I hang up the call I can't get online with wifi or edge. If I turn off wifi, edge doesn't get an IP address either.
This happening to anyone else?

I can't seem to get categories to show up on my springboard with jailbroken 2.2... Has anyone else had this issue. This is the only problem so far I've had. Thanks!

Reality Check, Please advise...
OK. I have a happy, loaded Jailbroken 2.1 3G. I own a PC so the next upgrade will happen by doing qwkpwn. I did my first jailbreak with Winpwn which does not appear to be upgraded.
What are my chances of things getting screwed up by doing this with Quickpwn? I am not looking to unlock my phone, but I also hear that I will never be able to unlock if I do this with Quickpwn.
Is it worth it to do this upgrade? My geek side really wants to explore the new virsion, but not at the expense of not being able to rebuild my jailbreak. Do I have much of a risk of not being able to get jailbroken again? Do I lose any chance of unlocking it by doing this this way?
Thanks,
Tuna

I am having problems with the Quickpwn 22 self-extracting archive. It says "errors occured and look at the window and the window shows the install stopped almost at the end. I am running Vista I had no problems with the 2.1 quickpwn. Anyone have any feedback?

I did it, ya, i did it, ya, ya..me, i did it!!!!!
So yes i am very proud of myself, as i had NO idea what i was doing at all....but soomebody posted a very helpful link to another site that scripted word for word on how to do it...the link is [URL="http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1880"]HERE[/URL, so maybe this will also help someone else struggling with the 2nd gen, window user....i now have a perfectly jailbroken, 2.2 unlocked i phone. And i used Aptbackup to get my cydia apps back..i know alot of people couldnt get this to work for them.
So if i can do it....ANYONE can.
Thanks for all the helpful post.

I do NOT know how you people miss the posts that tell you how to do this!
1st gen (or 2g as some like to call it, me included) just update iTunes, run aptBackup and do a backup (duh!) - available on Cydia - sync your phone, update your phone to 2.2, quickpwn, re-install aptBackup from Cydia, do a restore, all is well! Except for Intelliscreen at the moment.Last edited by mbaharvard; 11-24-2008 at 01:52 AM.
