If you have AT&T as I understand this, you will still have your phone. The problem comes in if you are interested in unlocking your Iphone so it you can switch carriers. It will be much harder to unlock your phone. This is not the same as jailbreaking. If all you want is to upgrade the firmware to jailbroken, this should still work, but be sure you do not want to unlock your phone later.

Heres what anyone can do if something important is hidden after your jailbreak like cydia and installer or settings! its from bigboss not me!
1) If you have Cydia still visible you can install Quickgold and simply launch the hidden apps. You can launch bossprefs, poof, or such and unhide it.
2) You can install SBSettings and unhide any apps that are hidden.
3) You can launch settings app and disable / reenable restrictions which should unhide most of everything. (You will then need to use poof, bossprefs, or sbsettings and rehide what you want hidden).
4) If you cannot install anything because Cydia is hidden, you can use apt-get install quickgold from the SSH prompt
5) In the most drastic case where you also do not have SSH, you can use iphone browser and delete the file located at /var/mobile/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SpringBoard.plist. Then reboot.Last edited by lostwhiteboyy; 11-23-2008 at 04:21 PM.

Went into Settings/General and did as suggested for the Restrictions (set, exited to home, reset restrictions, back to home)
NEXT... re-jailbroke it. "Settings" icon is back.
HAVE NOT SYNCED TO ITUNES AS YET. Would it be best, consdiering my past issues, to sync as "Set up as a new iphone" or to choose on of the backups?

Disclaimer: I have been through all 30 pages of this thread::
2nd Disclaimer: I got tired of waiting for winpwn for 2.1 so I stopped reading up on things a couple of months back::
Phone 3G 8GB JB 2.0.2 On ATT service.
I do want the option for software unlock in future.
My understanding was that quickpwning to 2.1 would lose a software unlock, however I read (1 time) that for the custom firmware available for dl (win pc here) that I need to upgrade to 2.1, then upgrade to 2.2 using the firmware available from GBA on the HoFo forums (yes I did the 2hr dl) for a baseband upgrade with 2.1.
Question, Can I go from 2.0.2 straight to 2.2 by restoring? Is it true that 2.1 had a baseband upgrade and do I need it or would that put an unlock option in jeopordy?
I do want a fresh install.
Thank you in advance!Last edited by YellowCopy; 11-23-2008 at 04:27 PM.

I have read all 30 pages and no one has seemed to have my problem:
I restored my 2.1 iPhone 3g in iTunes. And upgraded to 2.2. After I try to jailbreak with QuickPwn (the one provided in this thread). I never get past the first step. QuckPwn says, "wait for your iphone to connect in recovery mode..."
My iphone displays the image of "connect to itunes."
I've tried everything that I can think of, no matter what it ends up with me restoring. Can some one please help me get past this first step, does anyone know the problem? Any help is appreciated.

HELP! LOL!
I have a 1st Generation Iphone that I upgraded to 2.2 firmware. Please don't ask me how or why :> I just did. So, with that said, how can I jailbreak and unlock (not sure if I need to unlock, I am a legitimate AT&T customer).?? I tried to use windows quickpwn to jailbreak and nearly bricked my phone; but was able to get it to 2.2. Any help would be appreciated!! Please email me with help at:

Thanks!

I upgraded to 2.2 and jailbroke it with the new quickpwn2.2 My phone is jailbroken but does NOT recognize Tmobile network. Am i missing something? It sees my sim and tells me the phone number on it. I have tried swapping other sims into the phone and still the same problem.

Upgrade went smooth, jail break was fast/easy. The keyboard seems faster, no more delays. (hopefully it will last) I noticed the Remote program to control itunes is a bit sluggish though, delay when trying to change volume via iphone.

So let me get this right before I screw something up. I have the 3g right now with the 2.1 update and jailbroken. I would like to unlock this phone in the future whenever that becomes available. How can I jailbrake my phone on version 2.2 but still be able to unlock it in the future? Thanks

Tmobile Tzones
Anyone having issues with the Tzones Hack not working? Everything went fine on mine using PwnageTool 2.2 to make the firmware and restore and I proceeded to install my apps. When I went into Cydia to look for the Tzones hack, none of the BigBoss stuff was there. The source was installed so I uninstalled the package for BigBoss then reinstalled it and the hack showed up. I installed the hack and rebooted my 1st gen but I keep getting the:
Could not activate cellular data network: You are not subscribed to a cellular data service
I was on 2.1 before without issue and this is the ONLY problem I have. Everything else works perfect, calls, SMS, Street View, Winterboard....
In Settings>General>Network>Cellular Data Network it shows 'wap.voicestream.com' for the APN so everything looks right so far and Mail works. Any ideas?Last edited by Monkiki; 11-23-2008 at 04:57 PM.

My story this time:
Jailbroken 3G would not update in Windows XP iTunes(left me in the connect to iTunes screen on the phone) so I never got to use Win quickpwn. I made custom restore file using Pwnage on the MacBook (without baseband update) and upgraded the phone using the MacBook.
Went back to XP iTunes (which I usually sync with) to do the restore from backup which brought back contacts, etc. Then did sync to bring back programs, photos, video, etc.
I believe that this was the routine I had to use at the last update...a little involved but it does give me a clean upgrade where i only lose the Cydia programs.
