While I'm happy for the improvements made to Google Maps I'm not overly impressed with this update from Apple due to it yet again lacks features found in other smartphones. Such as the ability to edit documents, record video, digital zoom with timer for the camera, tethering, MMS, AD2P and copy/paste. Most of these features are available to only jailbroken iPhones and is reason why I'll continue to jailbreak unless Apple starts taking the smartphone market more serious by offering useful updates.

You will lose all your Jailbroken apps and your iPhone will be reverted to the factory original state (locked to a particualr provider unless you bought a factory (Apple) unlocked iPhone).
So if you are going to try to unlock at some point DO NOT upgrade. If you want to keep your jailbroken apps DO NOT upgrade. If you don't mind using your iPhone on its sanctioned cell provider (AT&T, Vodafone, etc.) and do not intend to unlock your 3G iPhone then you can proceed with the upgrade (it upgrades your baseband). I upgraded my Apple Unlocked 3G iPhone and its fully functional.
best of luck,

I don't know if anyone has actually updated a unlocked 1st gen iphone. I have and the phone does remain unlocked but ITunes does not recognize your Tmobile SIM. If you have done this, just downgrade to 2.1 and jailbreak it again. I think I will wait for the new unlock.

i love apple!
thanks to them, and my craigslist ad, every time they release new software, i get 10-20 people that accidently (on purpose, even tho i tell them not to or they will have to pay for another unlock) upgrade.
why dont people realize the apple hype??? silly sheople.
you NEVER had upgrades on ANY of the regular cellphones!
geez!
o well, $40 a pop for me!!!!

Yeah, I agree. I am convinced that Apple is releasing these features slowly so the "next" gen will be the upgrade causing more people to buy it. This makes me hope that the BB Storm will attract a lot of buyers with it's features and force Apple to pick up the pace a little.
Good healthy competition benefits the consumers ;-)

Anyone? Does the latest firmware or the latest itunes block cracked apps?
Edit Poseidon: If you ask about cracked apps again I'll start infacting you. We do not condone stealing software on this forum.Last edited by Poseidon79; 11-22-2008 at 12:59 PM.
Apple wants clones instead of customers.

any updaters notice the "update all" button in appstore?
way better than having to wait through each app to download/install and then go back into appstore and repeat. way to finally step up to cydia's end-userability, Apple.

you know apple will probably wait until they have figured out a way to stop the jailbreaks on the iphone, then release copy and paste and mms....although it will probably be pay per use

again wait for a few months and hope they will give copy and paste in the next firmware update
guess we'll have to wait for the next update and hope apple will give the copy/paste feature in the next update.
Why Apple just can't make it more simple.Last edited by adeel akmal; 11-22-2008 at 08:21 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

I think apple knows that they can't stop the jailbreak problem until they solve the hardware that's making it jailbreakable ((so sez the dev team))
And wow, people are so funny with upgrading by "mistake", how do you do that when you have to go through a series of yes or no questions b4 finally starting the upgrade...
