Another Step Closer to iPhone 3g Unlock

The Dev Team announced today that they have gotten one step closer to the iPhone 3g software unlock. Over the past months they have made a lot of progress in freeing the 3g iPhone and have gotten to the point where they " . . . have a clear path to follow, and 'all' that remains is the implementation."

What have the devs accomplished so far?

• First they accomplished unsigned code execution on 3G baseband
• Next they reverted 01.45 baseband to previous versions
• After that they managed to patch of static text
• Most recently iphone-dev found the key for injection of AT routines
• Last but not least they have now managed injection of background tasks as shown in the video at the top of this thread

It's been a long struggle for the Dev Team thus far but they have been working steadily towards the end goal of a software unlock for the 3g. Not asking for money they just do what they do because its what they want to do. Mad props to the devs. Thanks for the continued efforts.

So once they have it unlocked, what is the most economical way to get a 3g iphone? Can you purchase them from the apple store without account or activiation?

as far as the ipod is concerned im thinking that will be a different project all together....the 3g is at a higher demand right now. i freakin love the dev team...they need some like hard core sponsors and stuff. great job guys. keep it up

Im not saying I want to pay(who would) or that they Should charge,
but even if they did ask for a 5.00 donation fee for the jailbreak/unlock it would be worth it in the future.

All the hard work they put in each time and apple keeps making it harder....

And All the money we waste on .99 cent apps and the 20.00 sim card adapters-
I think that would be a small price to pay and probaby boost their work efforts.

Hell I wasted 5.00 last night cause I wanted the price is right app... Fun game btw lol

5 bucks, 10 bucks, 20 bucks? I would easily part with 20 bucks in exchange for the unlock. That is the price of a case of good beer, 2 movie tickets (or 1 movie ticket plus popcorn), etc. Not alot for one person to contribute, but if we all did it, it sure helps the dev team, and they have proven they've earned it.
