Contacts have to be typed to appear. If you type in the name of the contact, the contact will show up as an option. You tap it once, and it takes you to the Contacts screen with the number, and you can tap it to dial. Contacts do not work with voice search.
There is also a Settings tab, where, among other things, you can turn voice search feature off and choose which type of searchable items are included in your search (Contacts, Previous Searches, Websites, Suggestions - each can be turned on or off).

Kinda freaky how accurate it is.
I said "pizza in medford, or"
and there were the local results with addresses and everything.
thanks google, you're helpful and scary.

Works great. Too bad it doesn't work with contacts. It would be awesome if it did.

Weird, right on their freaking blog it says "Contact search. Quickly find contacts in your address book."
Google Mobile - Google Mobile App
Would be nice if they gave an example.
oh and by the way if you want to search the contacts you have to guess our secret word first, (its blatherskites)

I might be missing something but it's not very good at finding things by auto location. I actually have to tell it my city name in the search or it gives me U.S. wide answers even though the phone knows the zip by autolocate.

It is shockingly bad,a VERY poor attempt.
Tried over 100 different SIMPLE commands and it didn`t get 1 right!
Better luck next time Google...................

Agreed.
Some people think they have no accent whatsoever... here's a tip, if humans have trouble understanding you, a computer never will.
And again. If you read the big friendly notice, it says it's designed for someone speaking a clear North American accent. Was yours as good as Hugh Laurie's?
