Both these programs have there ups and downs
So far, BiteSMS has my vote, because of the fact its free. What happened to all the free apps before? That was half of the reason I jailbroke my phone, was to have really cool apps, and I didnt have to pay for all the stuff. 5 bucks isnt bad for a app, if it works awesome, which its close IMO
Only thing I dont like about Bite, is I cant read my messages in landscape, or anything else, just typing.

Free is always nice.....but shouldnt be expected.
These Dev's put alot of time and effort into developing these apps....and if they want to be compensated for their efforts, sounds reasonable to me.

iRealSMS 2.0 is better IMO no reply button wtf? iRealSMS has convo view u can text bak in and auto fill when adding a contact, little pricier but worth it if you ask me, mySMS isnt bad but i like my extra $6 app better, but i like all these landscape apps, now if sumone would redo the the springboard to suport landscape i would offically love my iPhone

Well, I seem to have a problem that I haven't seen anyone else mention. I can only send text messages with this program when my "wifi" is diabled. If I am on a wifi network (like my network at home), it will not send a text. Whenever I switch off the wife & just use my 3g network, it automatically sends the text. Any ideas about this?

I'm super grumpy. I found out that it's not the mySMS app but the irealSMS app that totally screwed up my phone. DON'T WASTE $13 and buy the ireal SMS app. For many reasons: 1. What SMS app is worth $13??? I mean, seriously. 2. It messes up your connections so that you can't send a text message with wifi, only 3G (or Edge). 3. It doesn't do anything extra special that mySMS does. Don't get me wrong. I spent the money to buy both apps but not am very upset at myself for buying irealSMS. It's garbage. Don't buy it.

I would have to disagree with blbeesley, I tried out MySMS and had more trouble trying to send a message. With MySMS I would have to try and send the message at least 3 times or more before it would actually send the message. So I tried out IrealSMS and it works everytime, I did have to reboot the phone after I activated the program because it wasn't sending out the message either but after a reboot the messages started sending with the same speed as the Default SMS program. I liked the features of MySMS but with the problems I was having sending a message out really discouraged me from buying the app that and the fact that it has really slow start up time and iRealSMS starts up very quickly. I would have to say that I recommend iRealSMS over MySMS till they can get the connectivity issues as well as the start up delay corrected. Just my thoughts on the matter.

sending large character-number texts
In response to the question earlier about sending a text with 140 or > characters, I tested this a few times, sending some texts to my wife's iPhone 3g and my mother-in-law's iPhone 3g. I sent a text with so many characters that mySMS, iRealSMS, and biteSMS all indicated would be 3 separate texts. What actually happened: it sent it as 3 separate texts, but when opened up on iPhone in any of the afore mentioned programs, was displayed as only one single text. I also repeated this procedure with "2-text" length single texts and more "3-text" length single texts. Although it seems to send them as 2 or 3 individual texts, because they were sent subsequently, without composing a new text, it recomposes them as a single text on the receiving iphone. I'm not sure if the default SMS program responds this way or not, as I have not tested it. Hope this helps.
By the way, I kind of favor biteSMS because: it's free, landscape mode is great, I can skin it, and, so far, it loads the fastest, and it is so similar to the default SMS app, my wife and her mom have absolutely ZERO trouble working it (they love the landscape mode!).

I just got mysms a few days ago. I originally bought and paid for irealsms 1.3 and then seen 2.0 was out so I figured i would be able to run the newer one well it wasn't accepting my serial code. I wrote irealsms and they told me I had to re-buy the app if I wanted to use 2.0 they would not give me a free upgrade. If anyone wants the newer version they will have to pay an addition 5pounds or 10+USD. I don't think its right. I understand alot goes into these apps but isn't this the way it is. People who already have purchased irealsms should be entitled to the upgrade or it should be stated up front. Even if they raised the price a little and it would include updates it would be nice.
I dont have anyhting bad to say about irealsms except the updating problems. So I found mysms online and like the idea of encryption and what it offers so I think I will just spend the 24 USD and try it out. If I were to upgrade to irealsms 2.0 I would have to spend an additional 10+usd and I already spent 10+USD to buy irealsms 1.3 so I would be up to 20 I guess for 3 more bucks I can get encryption.
I was using the demo in mysms and it seems to work well and I don't see any issues. irealsms is also a nice app but I'm not to happy about the upgrading features.
I probably woulda stuck with irealsms but what everytime an upgrade come out ill have to buy the app all over again so once they get to 4.0 then I would of spent total of 1.3 10+USD, 2.0 10+USD, 3.0 10+USD and 4.0 10+USD I'm already at 50 USD. Obviously they wont work much with the older versions and only looking to get new ones onto the market. You can also stay with the one you bought but I like newer apps and upgrading to the new features. Due to no upgrades or even the option to pay a little extra money to upgrade I will pay for something else.
I emailed with support at irealsms and they didn't seem to care about current customers they said it is alot of work into making an app which I completely understand but you kinda figure when you buy something it comes with upgrades, maybe I'm insane but it would make sense...I realize its only 10+USD but hell it will eventually turn out to alot more if I want newer and newer features as they come out...

I personaly have perchased both irealSMS 2.0 and mySMS and used both for about a day each. Every single message i sent with mySMS (purchased version) would take 3 to 4 times longer than the default SMS app if it even went through at all. I now only use irealSMS 2.0 simply because it sends messages at the same speed as the default SMS app does if not faster. Im very impressed with the app it runs smoothly and starts up very quickly so I definatley have to put my vote in for irealSMS 2.0

Does not work
I bought (paid) the software and it worked for two days. Then, all of a sudden, whenever I tried to either reply to a SMS or initiate a new SMS, the program just hangs, never sending. I e-mailed the developer, and he told me to SMS MYSELF and report back to him. I did that, and THAT worked, but when I tried SMS'ing my other AT&T phone, it failed again. I've un-installed, and re-installed and have gone as far as wiping my phone and starting from scratch (I use SMS at least 50 times a day, so it's a must-have). When I sent him a message back, he apparently blocked my e-mail address, because it bounced back. I then e-mailed him from another account and received the same dumb answer....SMS yourself, and e-mail us results....same scenario, he then blocked that e-mail address. Called CitiBank and told them that the item I've purchased does not work as advertised, waiting for a reversal on my credit card.
