Third Party Hack Adds External Keyboard to iPhone

Here is a video of someone who has attached a mini external keyboard to a jail broken iPhone!
The hacker seems to have managed to get snippets of Ruby code on his iPhone 3G, allowing it to recognize what appears to be a Palm / Visor external keyboard connected with a custom cable.
I guess that it’s kind of cool that someone can even do this…but the reason I so very much want to buy an iPhone is for the awesome Multi-Touch keyboard, that I have been able to play around with on my friend’s iPhones here and there.

VERY cool! I'd love to see a real bluetooth stack ported to the iPhone so we can use bluetooth keyboards and headsets someday, also.

This is neat proof of concept, but the sad thing is that after a week with my iPhone I was able to type considerably faster using the onscreen keyboard than the guy is with the tactile keyboard in the video. Also, I've never really been interested in any phones with built in keyboards, because with my fat fingers, the microscopic keys are virtually useless >_<
I hope this guy is prepared to start filling some big orders for these things!! Great find AppleChic!Comprehensive iPhone 2.1 FAQ:

It looks very awkward to use, where the iPhone on its own fits nicely in your hands when you type. And as another posted, after a short while fo getting use the they keyboard on the iPhone itself I have gotten quite fast at it. I personally hated going back to a normal phone keyboard while I was waiting for the replacement iPhone.

Toss in landscape text messaging and I am sure this thing would fly off the rack.

This would be useful for me because I have found that it is becoming more and more difficult to use the iPhone keypad maybe because some of use have thinker fingers.
I keep getting "in" instead of "on", and so on...
There used to be a way to reset the keyboard if the touch was off but it seem to be gone in v2.1.
Anything else I can try?
Thanks

I've seen one of these at a shop in my area.
It's a portable mini usb keyboard. I think it would be great for a nano or pico itx system.
I had connected an even smaller serial based Keyboard (Chatboard) to an iPhone just for fun, but I'm now working on another project which will be something completely new and different to the iPhone scene.
The greatest iPhone project ever - coming soon...

I once prayed to God for an iPhone, but quickly found out He didn't work that way...so I stole an iPhone and prayed for His forgiveness.
