New FastMac iv Promises to Triple iPhone 3G Battery Life

Click the image to open in full size.

FastMac has just released their second-generation iv battery pack. The new battery pack delivers 24 hours of talk time, 750 hours or 31 day of standby, over 20 hours of video and almost 72 hours of audio playback time. The battery powering the iv is rated at 3100mAh and can power and charge you iPhone at the same time. The extended battery for the iPhone also adds a built-in flash and can charge USB devices concurrently.

Depending on your iPhone 3G settings, you could get triple or even up to quadruple the battery life.

Some already are complaining about the bulkiness and size of the iv, however it's also the size that allows the iv to have the convenient extra add-ons. For instance, the new charger showcases a USB port for charging a second device that can charge both an iPhone and a USB-based device. Also, the built-in LED flash doubles as an emergency flashlight while serving as the flash for the iPhone camera. The somewhat bulky iv also houses an additional pair of speakers to amplify the iPhone’s sound.

The charger is contained within a soft to the touch, non-slip case that fits into a universal dock or an iPhone dock. Also, it's compatible with all iPhone models, although the triple battery life guarantee only applies to the 3G. It’s also compliant with the iPod touch and another nice extra feature is that it can even charge an iPod nano.

The FastMac iv is now shipping and costs $80, and this price is pretty reasonable relative to its competitors who cannot even offer the same battery life boost.

How thick is the battery pack? Are there any pictures of it on the side?

It is interesting, but I agree, pretty bulky for any daily use. I tend to just slide my iPhone in my pocket when Im in the office, and into its case when out and about on business calls.

as was already said, only good if you're out and don't know when you'll get a chance to charge the phone. I'd attach it once my phone is about to die or when not in use though, so as not to be seen with that massive thing attached.

okay this is great, but clearly too big. can we get a junior size? and one that is also a case to protect all around? i mean lets get serious about what features are important here:

battery life
flash
and IMO: a case that protects all 4 corners (in case of dropping) AND a SMALL footprint!! it can't more-than-double the width of my device!

now, lets talk about the "other" features:

USB port for other devices?
i don't need my iphone to charge other devices. i bought an iphone so that i wouldn't HAVE to charge any other devices.

speakers?
last time i checked, my iphone already had speakers. (on the other hand though, i would be very curious if these speakers were a GREAT solution to fist gen iTouch users, and also, i'm wondering if this thing doesn't cover up your existing iphone speakers, making them rather worthless).

extended dock bottom thing?
last time i checked, i could already dock my iphone, and i already have to take off the case i have now to dock it. its not that big of a deal. are we TRYING to add bulk to this thing?

battery indicators?
last time i checked, my iphone was very good at telling me how much battery life i have left.

i mean these are all nice features, but are they near as important as battery life and a flash? i would like to see a junior model that is pretty much just a little extra battery life and a flash, in a nice case that protects the device from being dropped, and isn't TOO big. obviously, the batteries and circuitry will add bulk, and thats okay within reason. but lets cut the fluff!!!

or to put it simply:

OMG, where to start with your ignorance.

1. Depth not width.
2. What if you have a digi camera that needed a charge for that higher quality picture, or a GPS unit to charge or a little fan(that would be funny to see)
3. Doubt the designers would be stupid enough to cover the iphones internal speakers, anyhow one is a mic.
4. Well if you want to charge both the internal battery of the iphone and the backup battery in one go and sync, then this is a great solution than having lots of wires.
5. The iphone's battery indicator is for the iphone's own battery, how the hell would the iphone know about external power. After all when plugged in I'm sure the iphone would show as charging because of this.

#1 Feature: Extend battery life and does an amazing job. Big battery = big bulk.

battery life
flash
and IMO: a case that protects all 4 corners (in case of dropping) AND a SMALL footprint!! it can't more-than-double the width of my device!

This is not a "case" and not marketed as one either. If you do some research on extended batteries for other phones and past devices you will see that doubling the size is standard.

now, lets talk about the "other" features:

USB port for other devices?
i don't need my iphone to charge other devices. i bought an iphone so that i wouldn't HAVE to charge any other devices.

This added feature doesn't add the "bulk" you are taking about.. its just something they could integrate into it.

speakers?
last time i checked, my iphone already had speakers. (on the other hand though, i would be very curious if these speakers were a GREAT solution to fist gen iTouch users, and also, i'm wondering if this thing doesn't cover up your existing iphone speakers, making them rather worthless).

The iPhone stock speakers are WORTHLESS! It wouldn't cover up the bottom b/c the mic for the phone would be useless and no one would be able to hear you. I'm sure they're not that dumb... come on.

extended dock bottom thing?
last time i checked, i could already dock my iphone, and i already have to take off the case i have now to dock it. its not that big of a deal. are we TRYING to add bulk to this thing?

This doesn't add any additional bulk... seriously... its the battery.

battery indicators?
last time i checked, my iphone was very good at telling me how much battery life i have left.

Last time I checked my battery sucked big time and having an extended battery would be great for traveling or if I forgot my charger.

i mean these are all nice features, but are they near as important as battery life and a flash? i would like to see a junior model that is pretty much just a little extra battery life and a flash, in a nice case that protects the device from being dropped, and isn't TOO big. obviously, the batteries and circuitry will add bulk, and thats okay within reason. but lets cut the fluff!!!

I think that it is way to think. its "almost as skinny as an iphone". Ok no, i defiantly do not want that.

Looks Rad! The USB port could be handy for those with a bluetooth headset.
