We have custom ringtones!!
It's a feature embedded in iTunes 7.3!

Yup, wonder what they'll charge for that, and how long it will take us to get around it.
06-27-2007, 03:20 PM #3
Time it takes us to hack around it: 1.5 minutes.

I really hope that there isn't a charge, I seriously think that would be a stupid idea. It's a music phone, you should be able to use your own music as ringtones.
I've looked past the lack of A2DP, Flash, Video Camera support, and a few others, but jesus, just let us use the music we already have...

Full song: $0.99. Ringtone version $0.99. Hmm.
06-27-2007, 04:04 PM #6what about on a contact by contact basis?
What we need is something in the contacts to assign a ringtone for a specific contact. Hope it's coming...

This is all but confirmed. Engadget is reporting the same as well. They even have a pic of the (now removed) phantom ringtone tab. $0.99 seems accurate from both reports.
See that picture on the right? It comes straight from the iPhone's Q&A page. Go ahead, count the iTunes tabs... we'll wait. Right, 8 tabs. Up until now, Apple's only been showing the iPhone's iTunes sync with 6 tabs: Summary, Info, Music, Photos, Podcasts, and Video. So what can we expect on the other two (assuming this isn't another graphics screw-up)? Well, MacRumors is speculating Ringtones on one of them, and we think they're right.
Are you on the list?...

This corresponds to a rumor I read on another site - specifically that ringtones will be added via iTunes.
That would certainly be cool, albeit nothing revolutionary of course.

Well it says iTunes 7.3 as a requirement on the specs page. I guess they'll make it available on friday for automatic upgrading when you open itunes to sych your new iPhone.

By putting out iTunes 7.3 on Friday afternoon it completely prevents anyone from buying and activating an iPhone before 6 pm. Smart move Apple.

Ha, that actually kinda sucks. I got a contact today who's holding a phone for me... I wanted to pick it up early xD
