iPhone 3g Unlock Update - Modified Baseband Running

Over the past week the dev team has made some good progress towards 3g unlocking.

The above screenshot and this video are of a 3g iPhone with a modified baseband. The news is that although the baseband fails integrity checks it is still running! So now the dev team can run a modified baseband on the 3g iPhone.

While the dev team still can not estimate how far they are away from a 3g software unlock this is a step in the right direction.

well im happy with AT&T...but its still an amazing thing...GREAT JOB!!!

Plus whenever the new iphone comes out i can make more money on this one if i unlock it ;-)

No it's not. at&v is just an AT command.

wouldn't it lower the value since the unlock program will be readily available?

Also is there another iphone coming out? HSDPA???

coool...I hope they can unlock it within this next month

I travel abroad a lot and need it unlocked badly.

Cant they copy the baseband off a factory unlocked iphone?

I guess they would've done it, if it was that simple.

Woo this is awesome! I'm currently using the TurboSIM to use T-Mobile on my iPhone, but who wouldn't love an actual hardware unlock more?

That way no more crippled functions, like with the TurboSIM (which isn't a big deal since T-Mobile's 3G isn't working with the iPhone, )

It's the GSM modem firmware. Just search for "iphone baseband" on Google if you want to learn more...
