Firmware 2.2 Already Jailbroken

Once again iPhone-Dev has jailbroken Apple's latest iPhone firmware before it has been released. Firmware version 2.2 Beta 1 was seeded to developers just over a day ago but is still vulnerable to pwnage. Below is a screenie of Terminal running on firmware 2.2 Beta 1.



Some nifty info regarding this newest firmware. With firmware 2.2 beta 1 Apple follows the a familiar pattern of naming their firmware versions. Remember they have been "Alpine" for awhile now -- 2.2 Beta 1 is called "Timberline." Also to note Apple has returned to putting expiry dates on their beta releases. 2.2 Beta 1 expires on November 30th.

On other fronts iphone-dev is still working on the 3g unlock and jailbreak for the iPod Touch 2g. We'll have to stay tuned as they will be trying some hardware based testing on the iPod Touch 2g over the weekend.

Just download a torrent from somebody who has created it on a Mac. Do a search on Google or on the "bay of pirates" torrent site. I downloaded one for a 2G phone and for a 3G phone over one week ago! Just make sure to download the one with the original startup screen (with the silver apple), as there is one with the custom pineapple. I like the original version myself. There's no need to be waiting - unless if you really need a super custom startup logo - who cares about that?

Personally I think we're getting a little too excited here... I don't think apple is going to try and stop it but if they were why would they waste time protecting their betas from jb? Big deal if they eventually expire... They'd put the protection on the real thing...

can't change root size with quickpwn and also boot up logo

You guys think that the Devs are getting "smarter" or apple isn't "working hard enough" It's not true on both counts. It's just that since the code got released to the Devs they can now just do a bit match and see where in the code things were "changed around"......and now that they know where the problem is they can dig a new hole very easily. It's really not that hard anymore and won't be until a MAJOR update that changes too much code to count.

apparently not. i did it on my 3g today and worked like a champ. was able to select that I didnt want installer on my phone and I kept cydia. took all of 20 minutes (even after messing up once).

it took dev like a month to jailbreak fw 2.0.. these random updates should be a breeze..

wasnt alpine been the name for ages.. why change it?
