Mysterious iPhone Data Matrix Revealed!

My guess its a part of all devices.... I took this today at work (using my iPhone) of an Venus (LG-VX8800) when I was working with the phone, it struck my attention.

yes, 2d bar codes / data matrix codes / qr codes are not new, they have been in popular use for years. UPS has been using them for an even longer time, just take a look at any shipping label and you can usually find one. The most likely reason for the code is to identify the part number of the back panel, or the manufacturing date.

Actually I was just comparing a friends 2G side by side with my 3G today, and I happened to notice that the 2G had more info on the back, including the serial number and the IMEI number (both of which are absent on the 3G). So maybe they simply moved the serial number to this 'hidden' barcode on the inside o the case.

Also, I noticed they moved the square with the capacity (4GB, 8GB, 16GB) to be directly under the 'iPhone' whereas on the 2G the IMEI #, etc. was in between the 'iPhone' and the capacity.

Probably meaningless, but I thought it might be worth mentioning.


Oh, and can anyone confirm whether it is actually a QR code, or just a standard data matrix code? I believe QR codes are a special variation invented by google, so perhaps this means Apple has some connection? *gasp* world domination is imminent!!

Look on your sim card tray for IMEI and S/N on the 3G

Our iPhone's are probably bugged. The FBI likes to know everything, so it's probably a way to listen in on convo's and get satellite imagery and location.
