I had same problem. Once it is recognized in iTunes but stuck on boot logo, uncheck all applications. Sync then reboot device. Now it should boot all the way and you can sync your apps. Remember to switch mobilesync to the one for 2.1

people seem to be getting the DFU mode and the recovery mode confused

DFU = itunes detecting your phone in recovery mode (i believe itunes still calls it recovery mode) but your phone screen is completely blank as if your phone is off

Recovery Mode = usb plug and itunes logo, or if previously pwn'ed and you changed your boot logos, it may be the steve job character and itunes detecting it in recovery mode

I will attempt to uninstall all traced of pwnage this evening and follow you file placement method with the bootloaders and firmwares... etc. Thanks for the tip. Anyone else wanna try this?

I understand the fact that it works on previously pwnd devices.
all 11 of the phones i did last night were not pwnd.
half were AT&T activated
half were brand new unactivated.

i used the method that i believe i found on the dev-team's blog (about not just opening the zip, to use unarchiver. and about the folder with the stock restore and bootloader files. plus you cant run it from the dmg or the archive. it has to be in the app folder before running. and always uninstall the old pwnage first then install the new one.)

i also believe the old kill ituneshelper thing still is in effect. i killed mine a while back, but then i installed itunes 8 and never killed ituneshelper after that. maybe thats it?

as for the link you posted.

???????????????????????
item not found?

from what i can tell on other threads, if you are pwnd already or not, YOU MUST REPWN!!!!!!
remember a couple days ago the devs said they would need to "patch" itunes but now they say they dont and that itunes was not harmed in any way!

THATS BECAUSE THE PWNING HAS CHANGED!!!! THEY PUT THE PATCHES IN THE PWNING!!! YOU MUST PWN UR IPHONE TO MAKE THE FIRMWARE WORK!!! OTHERWISE YOU WILL GET ERRORS!

That doesn't make any sense. The process of "pwning" your phone gets done in the same step as restoring to the custom built firmware by pwnage tool in DFU mode. You don't "pwn" your phone with pwnage first and then restore to the custom ipsw...the process is one in the same.

Last night I used pwnage 2.1 to update my daughter's 1.1.1 fw 2G 8GB phone. The phone had never been pwned before! Used my macbook running 10.5.5 ( which was updated earlier in the day) and iTunes 8. I just followed the basic pwnage instructions to the letter. No problem. I Let pwnage 2.1 tell me when to press and release buttons to put it into DFU. So, I really don't think it's simply a matter of 10.5.5 being the issue. Perhaps there's something else in conjunction with 10.5.5 causing some people, problems.

Further to me previous post, It looks like I'll be doing another 1.1.1 2G 8GB phone tonight. It also has never been pwned. (been on 1.1.1 since purchased, last year) I will post the results of this one using same macbook with 10.5.5 and iTunes 8

Just a suggestion to those having problems..... Have you folks tried clearing the slate?? delete all downloaded firmware, pwnage 2.1, the bootloaders, etc. and then download fresh files for the whole process?? pretty basic, I know, but something weird is happening.

Do me a favor. Restore to apple firmware 2.1 stock first... then build a custom 2.1 with pwnage and try and DFU restore to that. I'm trying to re-create the same set of variables.

10.5.5 install problems!!!!

10.5.5 Has some install problems, I ecountered on several computers. Some people are having probs with pwnage some are not, could be a bad install. Download the update from apple and install it again, it worked for me on 3 computers.

Just to reintegrate what pmichos said I think this it the problem. I upgraded to iTunes 8 first then I used Software Update to update to 10.5.5 and had some problems... then I went to Apple and downloaded the update and reinstalled it. Now everything is good. I think the update to 10.5.5 from the Software Update... is the problem. PB 17" 1.33GHz Power PC G4 & 2G iPhone 8GB.
