tired practicing on my 2g first before trying this on my pwnd 3g here is the result

using itunes 8 and latest pwn tool, successfully restored to 2.1 and everything works fine, free and paid apps downloaded from the appstore work but cracked ones dont, winterboard has some minor bugs (large icon themes get partially cut off) this problem is suppose to be fixed with the next winterboard update. the only issue i encountered is when i change the mobile install file using shh and reboot the the phone it just gets stuck at the pwn logo and vibrates every couple of secs. restored and have tried this 3 times already same result each time. Using the same cracked mobile install file that has been working on this 2g phone and is currently working on my pwd 3g running 2.02 (which has no issues syncing with itunes 8 or with loading new cracked apps.) has the cracked mobile install file changed for 2.1 or do we have to do something different?

My cracked apps don't work, but my paid for ones do.

fox7racer, you need to have mobile installation file for 2.1. old 2.0.2 don't work. It will do exactly what you are saying, stuck at logo, vibrate periodically. google for it.

thanks allot! works great now!!! customize seems to not work on 2.1 lets you change the plst. files but says "files not found customize could not fine the required files to run offline. go online and run customixe to update the files." im connected with wifi so i dont know what Online they are talking about

Just a little hint if you are using Categorize and you are using Windows to upgrade to version 2.1

Move all your apps from Categorize BEFORE you upgrade. Failure to do so will result in the apps not showing up (Ahrrrrggggg). I am stuck without Settings and other system tools now.

Might have to downgrade to 2.0.2 again to get it back.

I decided to wait for the software to be avail for Windows.
Right now I am downgraded to 2.0.2 and working on restoring my iPhone 3G again.

Duhhh should have waited rather than jumping on this so soon.

OK i got a big problem. Im hoping someone can help me out here. I tried doing the quickpwn method. And i deleted a folder instead of a file. Now my iphone is stuck on reboot. It wont do absolutely anything. I tried restoring/dfu mode. I keep getting a error when i try to restore. Im on 2.1 but its just stuck on boot menu.

Can someone u/l the mobileinstallation.frameworks folder?? So i can put it back thorugh diskaid??

I know what i did wrong i just cant find the file anywhere. Its located in:

system/library/privateframeworks

I have a 3g running jailbreaked 2.1 (thanks WillyDavidK), this morning I installed 7 updates in Cydia including Categories, Winterboard, Safari DL pugin, and a few others. Now Cydia crashed immediately after opening. I have tried rebooting with no luck. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I also heard that we have to uninstall IntelliScreen before updating to 2.1 , otherwise we'll get the Apple Screen of Death.

Guys, Need your help with mobileinstallation for 2.1.... My phone is running 2.1 softare after the restore but my question is when I SSH do I delete the old mobileinstallation file and then add the new mobileinstallation file? Or do I change the name of the old mobileinstallation by adding .bak to the end and then add the new one also?? Do I need to create Document folders also??? Are there any other steps that need to be done before all of this??

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Woop got my phone working again!!!!
Bloody hell its took nearly two days straight..!! I got it too finally restore just simply by being persistent.. restored to stock 2.1... it might of been because I tried my third ipod cable? Don't see what was wrong with the other two because I can still use them to sync it again?
I had a bit of trouble getting it to a jailbroken/unlocked/activated 2.1... whenever I used quickpwn to flash 2.1 iTunes would'nt recognize the iPhone saying it had to be restored again?? Anyway I got everything working now

Thanks WillyDavidK for making me persistent!! Hopefully the stupid thing aint gonna die on me anytime soon

2.1 using a workaround found on the forum
