PwnageTool & QuickPwn 2.1 Released - iTunes 8 Compatible

So how does this sound?
(I just emailed the following to my friend who is on 2.0.2 with AT&T 3G)

QuickPwn is out for Mac users, but since the guys at Main Page - WinPwn (makers of quickpwn for windows) are behind, there is another method to jailbreak for now. (if we don’t want to wait another week) I know I can’t wait, 2.1 is supposed to fix all crashes, and slow contact searching etc.

Here’s what we do: (I’m trying it tonight on mine)

1) Uninstall and Install the latest iPhobneBrowser 1.81 iphonebrowser - Google Code
2) Use iPhoneBrowser to transfer off your cycorder videos to your PC so they are not lost. (And any other apps such a Nintendo emulator roms etc)
3) Install/Update Itunes 8.0
4) Let ITunes do a complete backup of your iphone
5) Let ITunes upgrade your phone to 2.1
6) Download these

8) iTunes should restore your backup / settings after all that
9) Reinstall the Cydia apps you had before

okay so from what ive read alot of people are having luck upgrading to itunes 8, leaving the phone on the home screen and then just upgrading to a custom 2.1 ipsw so this is what i think im going to try.

okay and id like to report back SUCCESS.

thanks to WillyDavidK for the custom ipsw im now on 2.1 unlocked, jailbroken, and activated from a PC!

for anyone else thats on a 2g iphone and Windows, follow the link to WillyDavidK's custom ipsw's, find the one thats right for you, if you dont know which one that is check his link to his request form theres alot more info there that may help you.

Download the ipsw that fits your needs, upgrade your itunes to itunes 8.

Leave phone on home screen, DO NOT put phone in dfu mode.

The just hold shift, click on restore in itunes 8 and restore to the custom ipsw you just downloaded.

This worked first time out of the gate. If you are running windows then follow this and 10 minutes later you are back in business!

hmmmm well this is even easier then. Did itunes backup and restore all your appstore apps + settings? I guess if I hit any error messages then I'll follow the other method above.

Yes, absolutely! My email, tuner (stations), aim, clock, etc... Everything was restored!

For some reason, I think even my Winterboard theme setting was restored as well! Because when Reinstalled Winterboard in Cydia uploaded my custom theme and rebooted, my custom theme loads right up. I didn't even entering Winterboard setup!

So far, so good. No errors, glitch or anything!

wow sounds like you got lucky. I read it's a good idea to uinstall the hard core cydia system apps first. (catagories was a big one, which I dont use anyway) I think I'll uninstall Winterboard and a few other ones before I let the 2.1 update.

followed the easiest procedure

I first click Shift click Update then I got an error which put my Iphone on Restore state. I started Downloading the official 2.1 maybe restore from there then use custom 2.1.
As I was reading the forum while downloading, I saw spysect's post.
Cancelled the DL. Shift+Click Restore and clicked Wily's CFW

I'm just waiting now for Itunes to install all my apps again

What DOS window is Spysect referring to? I see my iPhone going white and all, but I don't see a DOS window popping up.

It shouldn't be a zip folder. and now u don't have to change the folder to ipsw! it should be a customized firmware already with a ipsw on the end. save it to ur desktop. It should save as firmware

I didn't uninstall anything. The only thing I did was kill the iTuneshelper process in the task manager before doing a shift+restore in iTunes 8. This was done on XP Pro with a 3G iPhone.

It involves have one 2.0.x ipsw (supported by the Windows QuickPWN) and the custom 2.1 IPSW from Willy.

Load the QuickPWN up with the 2.0.x ipsw and go through it normally until you reach the DOS part.
Follow the "How to enter White DFU Mode" correctly (the bit where it tells you the power button and home button.)
As it detects it in DFU in DOS, the long text of Operation 0 appears and your iphone goes White.

You must TERMINATE the DOS window immediately, use Task Manager for that. (best to leave Task Manager open and ready when you do it.)

Load up iTunes 8.0 and should detect the iPhone in White DFU Mode.
Shift Restore with Willy's Custom 2.1 Firmware.

And Voila! One perfect back to life iPhone!

The DOS Prompt is the bit that pops up in Windows when you QuickPWN the phone:



If you don't know where to stop the QuickPWN, these three steps should do it,

Step 1) Run Task Manager. (Ctrl-Alt-Del)
Step 2) Run QuickPWN and follow what it says (Follow Steps 1-10 here: iClarified - iPhone - How to Jailbreak a 2.0.x iPhone Using QuickPwn GUI (Windows))
Step 3) As it reaches Step 10 (from the iClarified Tutorial) and the long text with "Performing Operation 0, 100% done", EXIT the DOS Window Immediately and you should end up with the White DFU Mode Screen on your iPhone.
Step 4) Run iTunes 8.0, it should detect the iPhone in Recovery Mode, Shift-Click Restore with Willy's Custom Firmware and hit it!

Thanks spysect, I'm going to try this as my upgrade method from 2.0.2 to 2.1 The other ways seem to involve installing/uninstalling/reinstalling intuens8.0/7.7 If All I need to do are the steps above, I'm ready to try it tonight after work. Hopefully the backup restores afterwards as well.

Yes I had an iPhone 2.0.2 at the beginning which ran with Error 6 and 1600 on iTunes when I wanted to clean my iPhone for the upgrade, and the steps are all you have to do. Backups work too!

i've noticed 2.1 brings up a weird thing on iphone 2G after upgrading to 2.1. I got 2G & 3G iphones and i switched sim cards, after upgrading the firmware in both only the 2G recognized i had the wrong sim, so i had to switch back, do you guys know if 2.1 is unlockable yet?

Question, i tried hacking my phone through iTunes 8 following the tutorial, but if would let me when i tried restoring off of the pwned firmware, now i read online that itunes 8 recognized rouge firmwares how to you bypass this?

Can someone answer this simple question, i have a JB (used winpwn) 2G, ATT phone with 1.1.4 as my current FW. Can I simply update to 2.1 then either DFU or from the home screen shift restore one of the CFW floating around this thread. This just seems way too easy to be true. And can anyone confirm that they did this same exact (or very close to) thing and it worked. I am on PC with Vista.

I did have an oddball issue where all of my music became 'other' in iTunes and I ended up making the situation worse trying to fix it. But a quick restore and a dose of quickpwn and I was back in business again!

Other than that, everything has been working seamlessly.
