Already up, you just need iphone-3g-2.1-custom-noactivate-nobootlogos.
No, you want iphone-3g-noactivate-noinstaller-nobootlogos. Most important bit is the noactivate part, because you are on ATT.
Just download bootneuter on Cydia and use it to unlock.
As I have said about 6 times now, the files are NOT zips and are NOT folders, you seriously couldn't read at least the last 5 pages???
You need the one that matches your settings, noactivate for ATT, activate for TMobile, 3g for 3g, 2g for 2g, noinstaller if you'd rather have just cydia, nobootlogos if you want to keep default ones, custombootlogos if you want the normal pwnage boot logos. It's all self explanatory really.
I agree, this is getting pretty out of hand.
No. Apps for 2.x are completely different than 1.x, and you couldn't have done this for any of the 2.x updates. App store apps you might be able to keep, but as far as JB apps go, you'll have to hope all of yours are already ported, and install the new versions.
I am going to send a pm to pf (lol) and see if we can't lock this thread up and just create a FAQ with as much info as possible, and sticky it on the forums. Also I am almost done creating a form for ipsw requests since the PM and posting on the forum method is a bit inefficient.Last edited by WillyDavidK; 09-15-2008 at 09:47 PM.

have you even read the past 35 pages? it depends on if you running the 2g i phone or the 3g iphone and if you wanna be att locked or not. theres alot of variables working here and most of the posts are people saying 'unlocked and working thanks!' with no details as to what program, what steps they took, what iphone they have, what carrier they are using, nothing.

Quick and simple question, which i asked earlier and got no response.
If i use quickpwn on my 3g AT&T carrier phone, will it mess with anything that wont be reversable? (baseband?..) i havent jailbroken since 1.1.3 on my old 2g phone and i remember some issues with basebands.
And lastly, if i do use pwnage or quickpwn, will restoring with an authentic apple firmware reverse it all back to factory?

I would venture to assume that your "noactivate" ISPW's are for ATT or any other legit iPhone Carrier right?!
As someone previously stated, there are so many variables/combinations possible that it ain't so easy to simply follow said instructions.

Yes sorry, well I've explained it so many times it's hard to mention every single variable every time. Slipped my mind this time, but yes noactivate is for anyone with the typical carrier for their country.
UPDATE: I finally got an official form up for ipsw requests. It took me a while, as my html skills are a bit rusty, but here it is, please send requests using this form from now on!!:

ok so I read 90 percent of this stuff and couldn't find these answers.
I'm on a 2g phone running 1.1.4
using a mac
presently on iTunes 7.x just before 8.
as I read there were issues with this process using iTunes 8.
So
Do I have to upgrade from 1.1.4 before using pwnage tool 2.1?
Do have to upgrade to iTunes 8?
Heard there were problems
Does pwnage tool create a backup of my phone inside the custom ispw it generates for me to use as a restore? Or does all that info go back onto the phone on the next sync after all is done?
Sorry if this has been said before but it was hard trying to scroll through all the windows whiners pleas for help.
Any help would be great
Thx

wileydavidk Your the man for helping everyone out. Unfortunatley i tried the shift+restore and ran into error 6. So i went the quickpwn route and im glad to say after 2 days and alot of frustration, im successfully on 2.1 on the 3g.

wileydavidk, I have been able to restore both a 2G and 3G with your files. I ran in to several problems trying to do it by putting the phone in DFU mode but it always faulted. I found that if you place the phone in restore mode only, shift restore, then itunes will restore your phone with the custom firmware with out any issues.
Thanks wileydavidk for the files!!!

okay so from what ive read alot of people are having luck upgrading to itunes 8, leaving the phone on the home screen and then just upgrading to a custom 2.1 ipsw so this is what i think im going to try.
okay and id like to report back SUCCESS.
thanks to WillyDavidK for the custom ipsw im now on 2.1 unlocked, jailbroken, and activated from a PC!
for anyone else thats on a 2g iphone and Windows, follow the link to WillyDavidK's custom ipsw's, find the one thats right for you, if you dont know which one that is check his link to his request form theres alot more info there that may help you.
Download the ipsw that fits your needs, upgrade your itunes to itunes 8.
Leave phone on home screen, DO NOT put phone in dfu mode.
The just hold shift, click on restore in itunes 8 and restore to the custom ipsw you just downloaded.
Simple, easy, and everythings working great. thanks again Willydavid!Last edited by ahhhhwhoa; 09-16-2008 at 07:41 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

updating to 2.1 on iTunes 8.0
Hello, folks
..
If you're running into error's updating your 2G and 3G with the bootloader.
I found the reason.
All the files that are used to make the custom firmware NEEDS to be in ONE FOLDER to function
. exp. make a folder name it iPhone or whatever. (1. BL-32.bin & BL-46.bin, (2. your custom logo's if you have one, (3. Pwnagetool, (4.the restore.ipsw firmware 2.1. lastly, run the Pwnagetool and just follow the steps and work from that one FOLDER. Good luck.

mattkeane88, that looks like the easiest way for me to upgrade from 2.0.2 to 2.1.
Will I be able to do a backup/restore to keep all my appstore apps/settings?
Will I be able to use the Cydia installed "app backup" to recover jailbroken apps/settings?
I'm not sure why these other methods of windows 2.1 upgrades talk about installing itunes 8, uninstalling and putting itunes 7.7 back on, followed by so many other post follow up steps. If the method you quoted works, that's pretty straight forward. Is that it? or this only for the error fix nothing moreLast edited by JazJon; 09-16-2008 at 12:17 PM.

I use WillyDavidK's custom firmware (custom_noactivate_nobootlogos) on my winpwned 2.0.2 3G without updating and by just restoring it using with his firmware and it works perfectly!
Restored my 2.0.2 backup, and I got my phone fully working again!iPhone 3GS 32gb | iOS Jailbroked | Winterboard Custom Theme| Ultrasn0w Unlocked

Thanks spysect, I'm going to try this as my upgrade method from 2.0.2 to 2.1 The other ways seem to involve installing/uninstalling/reinstalling intuens8.0/7.7 If All I need to do are the steps above, I'm ready to try it tonight after work. Hopefully the backup restores afterwards as well.
hmmmm well this is even easier then. Hold in Shift, click restore, and browse to your hacked firmware? (easy) Did itunes backup and restore all your appstore apps + settings? I guess if I hit any error messages then I'll follow the other method above.Last edited by JazJon; 09-16-2008 at 04:01 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Ok so here's an easy one:
My Touch is syncd to pc. The touch has been pwnd with winpwn before but since jb'ing 2.1 I couldnt backup. I have since restored my ipod to a fresh 2.1.
My phone has yet to be syncd to any of my comps. I bought the phone and it has been jb'd, but since I dont know what they did, I wanna start fresh. What should I do here first?
I have already built the cfw's with the pwnage tool. Can I use mac and the pwnage-tool to load the cfw's on the iPod & iPhone, and not have any issues syncing back on pc? PC is where all my music, ect is located. I have only recently been rewarded with a mac.
