If you read like one page back you will find your answer. You need to drag pwnage into your applications folder before you run it, it will NOT work run from the dmg.

Possible dead iphone now...
Ado.. I tried updating my once workin 1st gen iphone running 2.02 jailbreaked this morning to 2.1... and now the whole thing has messed up... I updated to the latest pwnagetool.. and even quickpwn cus i like to have them both.. downloaded firmware.. created custom firmware... came to install it.. got to the end and itunes came up with a error message.. I've tried no end of times today to get the thing working again but its stuck with the itunes logo and ipod cable on screen.. its nothing like ive seen before cus theres not even the option to unlock the screen to use for emegency phonecalls... Even if you try restoring it in itunes letting it restore it with non custom firmware it comes up with error message 6...1011 all them like..
anyone got any ideas? cus life aint livin without the iphone lmao

cool.
but I'm enjoying 2.1 on my PC already
I would like my custom boot logo back again, but not at the expense of losing all my apps n' stuff (which I didn't on this one).

Mine was exactly the same after restoring from my latest backup I tried it a few times with the same result every time just stuck in an endless reboot and vibrating every 30 seconds.
To fix it I restored an older backup which worked fine and then in iTunes I right-clicked on the iPhone logo in the left column, selected restore from backup and restored my latest backup (the one which failed after a normal restore) and voilla it worked.
Phew

09-14-2008, 06:08 PM #431Yeah from what i've been doing I've been putting the phone in DFU mode. Hold both buttons for 10 seconds, release the power button holding the home button still. By restoring to factory settings do you mean just simply clicking restore in iTunes? I've tried DFU'in n hittin restore but still comes up with an error. Tried it on my other mac machine but same problem? Everyone else seems to have been able to do the 2.1 update except me lmao

Trust me, there are plenty others that have had trouble with this update. It just takes some persistence. To restore to factory settings, just hit restore in iTunes, no key combination, no custom firmware, just plug in your iPhone and click restore. This will put the official 2.1 firmware on there and reset all of your settings. After restoring it should automatically reload your contacts, photos, etc from the last backup.
After restoring, you can try loading the custom firmware from iTunes while the phone is plugged in normally (ie not using DFU or restore mode) if you have already been pwned before.
I would suggest using BossPrefs or Poof to hide it, or SSH into your phone and just delete the rogue application.Last edited by WillyDavidK; 09-14-2008 at 06:39 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

It should be pretty simple restoring it.. but it's just not having it.. iTunes is the only program to recognize the iPhone exists.. Pwnage or Ziphone or IBricker or nythin else that is meant to be able to detect an iphone in recovery mode wont... tried it both on mac n PC... even time machined back to itunes 7.7 on my other mac... not having any of it..
You click restore in iTunes.. nothing else like you said n it starts to restore.. installs the software.. but when it comes up saying its restoring the firmware... error pops up after a couple of minutes on that screen.!! It's so close to doing it

can someone post the easiest way to upgrade using windows. I've read all 29 pages and I'm getting a whole bunch of stuff.
Is quickpwns way the best way? Or can you upgrade to a customs fw through iTunes?
Do you lose your apps? I've seen that winterboard doesn't work.
Or is it better to just wait for the windows quickpwn? Thanks

I upgraded through windows using a custom fw for the 3g iphone and it worked great with no problems. U don't have to put the phone in no type of mode just keep it on the homescreen, just plug the phone to itunes and press restore. I put the custom firmware where itunes downloads the firmware because I didnt have the options to press shift and restore. It didn't do anything. but I'm running well on 2.1 jailbroken and cracked ipa work fine too.

tellytel: Just update to iTunes 8, update your iPhone to the new 2.1 software (not JB), grab the custom FW from me or some of the others that have posted CFW and do the routine shift+restore in iTunes (don't worry about DFU or restore if you're already JB, it's not necessary). If all goes well you will have yourself a working JB with 2.1. If all doesn't go well, you may end up with Error 6, error 1600, or a few of the other things I'm sure you've already read about. If that is the case you just restore to factory settings and wait a few days for the dev team, or you can try to go back to 2.0.x
I actually have a new problem which is a bit disconcerting. All of my music has become 'other'. In other words, instead of a big green bar in iTunes, I now have a big orange bar. Also the iPod doesn't see any of my music now (despite it all still being on the iPhone) and under Music in iTunes (under my device) there is more of the same. Anybody have an idea of whats up? It was working for a while, I'm not sure what happened exactly o_0Last edited by WillyDavidK; 09-14-2008 at 07:56 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
