Jazz I downloaded your link but couldnt use it is in zipped folder, i cant do anything with it. Anybody else have a custom 2.1ipsw for 3g I been looking everywhere!

Why does it have to backup every time you sync?
It is taking forever on 2.1

You can disable those automatic backups with Terminal. Type:

defaults write com.apple.iTunes AutomaticDeviceBackupsDisabled -bool true

hit return

If you want to enable them again type:

defaults write com.apple.iTunes AutomaticDeviceBackupsDisabled -bool false

and hit return

When you type these commands in Terminal you may want to have iTunes not running.

Alright, another update: I'm uploading a few ipsw's at the moment. All are 3G, however I may start working on 2G ones if I can get the firmware linked to in the original post to work. Here's what I'm uploading atm:

iPhone 3G 2.1, no activation, cydia and installer, custom boot logos (standard settings)
iPhone 3g 2.1, no activation, cydia and installer, default boot logos
iPhone 3G 2.1, no activation, cydia only (no installer), default boot logos

I was originally gonna do ones with activation (Activate my Phone box checked) but since this is for 3G and there is no soft-unlock as of yet, is this even necessary?

Before I try to do 2G, are there any other requests for 3G combinations, such as no installer, but with custom boot logos, etc?

I'll put up the link to the files once the above 3 are uploaded (approx. 30 min)

awesome! this is great! a few questions i need to ask before i pwn my iphone 3g 8gb again if you guys dont mind! I am currently in firmware 2.02 pwned with quickpwn (so i know ho to use it) running itunes 7.7. Questions:

- in order to get a jailbroken 2.1 iphone, i must download itunes 8, update to official firmware 2.1 via itunes 8, run quickpwn with the 3g ipsw?
- will all of my jailbroken apps like winterboard and all my custom themes get erased?
- do i need to back anything up before i jailbreak with 2.1?

its just i got confused reading posts about using DFU mode etc, and the 1600 error, so i am kind of worried, since this will be my second time jailbreaking an iphone.

for the people that are having problems with getting their bootloader 3.9 to be recognized try making a new folder on your desktop and add:

bootloader 3.9 & 4.6
Pwnage Tool 2.1
2.1 Firmware

...or you can just copy all those onto your desktop.
It worked great for me so I hope it does the same for you all!

pwnage is building a 2G ipsw at the moment so I can't check, but it's left at the default setting (500MB or 50MB I think)

you'd be a pal if you made one for me, 2g, 2.1ipsw, activated, unlocked, neutered, bootloader 4.6 and partition size 750mb

I can do that, do you want both cydia and installer? Do you want custom boot logos?

The first 2 2G ones have the default Neuter settings (neteured, update bootloader unchecked, unlock baseband and auto delete checked)

EDIT: TO ALL DOWNLOADING: if you see a file on the server that starts with .pureftpd it's an upload in progress - DO NOT DOWNLOAD until it finishes and changes to the proper name.

Yes it comes with both, if something is not mentioned it means that it is at default settings.
