The Genius playlist creation on the iPhone itself is SOOOOOOOO freaking cool. I would put it up there at the top of the list of features EVER put onto an iPod. You just hit Genius, up pops a list of all songs on the iPhone. Pick a song. Up pops a list of 25 songs that it has picked from your library. It's one of those features that you just say to yourself "how did they freaking do that?!?!"

To enable Genius playlist creation do the following:

Install 2.1 (duh)
Create a Genius playlist in iTunes 8
Save that Genius playlist
Go to your iPhone under Devices and pick the Music tab
Make sure you have that Genius playlist checked to sync
Sync your iPhone

After sync completes go into the iPod app and you should have at the top of your playlists 'Genius' right at the top above 'On The Go'.

Thanks psw29uk, I also have the 2g iPhone which I just want to update to 2.1 now. I just need it to be activated and unlocked because I am using it outside the US. Don't really need to jailbreak it yet. Your experience certainly helped me to make the decision. I will wait for a few more report before making the move.

In your case I'd just wait a till you get back. The one thing that you want to be sure about is your services especially since youre going out of the country. Stick with what works at least till you get back.

My first gen is still activated and unlocked after upgrading to FW 2.1 But if one does a restore sure your going to loose your activation.

Update is the only way to maintain your activation any other method will need to be pawned to get activation back.

That's expected. You have to be jailbroken to have cydia.

Does this also include the 3rd party push service that apple is suppose to allow devs. to use? Or have they pushed that back?

Wow!!! With O2 at home, I was lucky to get 1 bar for the 3G signal, if any at all.
Now, immediately after the update, 3 bars of 3G signal.

Haven't even tested anything else yet
