Iphone Firmware 2.1 - Grab it While It's Hot

I just updated to 2.1 from 2.02 jailbroken. I hit update and when it was done I got the spinning wheel of death (spinning wheel, vibrating, rebooting) Then I did a shift-restore to the downloaded 2.1 and when it was done it told me the sim card was not supported. So I restored to my previous custom 2.02 (I had to put it in DFU mode through Winpwn to get it to work. I did it as a new phone. Then I hit update and am at 2.1. It is MUCH FASTER! Great so far.

what program did you use? can you help me out?

EDIT: nevermind, figured out the way you did it. was it complicated? i thought about going ahead and doing it that way but part of me still wants to wait lol.

Use Update not Restore and you will be fine.

wait...so if i have a winpwned 2g with unlock i can up grade without loseing the unlock??

Yeah, as long as you just upgrade and don't restore, your phone will stay unlocked. It will lose the jailbreak, though.

so if I already dl file from here I can just shift+c trl and select update? Cuz my iTunes is 7.7.0 and it says I'm up to date. I guess it's only for 8.0? Is it ok if I do this even tho I'm not on 8.0?

Has anyone try the text message improvement ? Can it do forwarding, save draft message in folder, outbox etc... like the iRealSMS does ?

Is this correct, launch iTunes 8 then shift-update (Windows) or option-update (Mac) then choose the downloaded original firmware? or can i directly update using iTunes 8?

previously 2.01 winpwn unlock, jailbreak, activated..........updated in itunes 8 and lost jailbreak ( expected) also lost activate and unlock......... and yes before you doubt me i pressed activate 100% sure. the modem firmware reports 04.05.04_G

maybe shift-update then choose the firmware and not directly update in iTunes 8..

My 2G iPhone survived the update to 2.1 from 2.0.2 quickpwn. As expected, unlocked and activated but NO JB. Just wondering, reading the 2.1 JB method from sleepers, would I be able to JB without uninstalling itunes 8 > itunes 7.7.*?

You have to uninstall 8>7.7 can ya let me know if anything is deleted from iTunes once back on 7.7. Like do we have to add everything back or does it turn back to as was before?

I had success jailbreaking 2.1 using Big Bosses instructions on Sleepers.com however I did find Cydia to be extremely buggy. It causes the iphone to intermittently reboot when Cydia is open.

i also jailbroke with no problems using this method. but i havent had any problems so far/yet running just as stable and before the jaibreak THANKS BIG BOSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

congrats for those who manage to JB 2.1. Just a quick ques, do you sync your 2.1 iphone with iTunes 7.7.* right now? How about official apps, are there any problems with that (Assuming you bought it in Itunes 8)? Im still on unlocked 2.1 and no JB. Still reluctant do the uninstall/reinstall thinggie

I UPDATED my jailbroken and unlocked iPhone from 2.0.2 to 2.1 with no problems. It's different not having Cydia and Installer anymore, but my iPhone operates SO much faster now. I'll manage until the next Dev team tool is released...
