What makes unlocking the iPhone illegal?
Also I'd be willing to do this to many many phones in my free time if their was enough interest and therefore profit. How much would people buy a REAL unlocked iphone for?

hmm...i was referring to THIS Ruling (also Here) making the unlocking legal. I think that the methods might be illegal...but we are allowed to unlock our phones (any phones) for use on other networks...which is pretty much what's going on here.

Anybody else attempting this? I've been at this for about 5 hours now and I'm stuck at step 6. Trying to get a NOR dump of my phone, but I get error. Soldering took about 2 hours (about 1hr30min wasted on cursing.) the solder points are very close together. You are basically working on a 2.5mm area on those two points. Used 26gage circuit solid core solder, flux, and magnet coil wire from some old headphones. Once i figure out step six and everything else goes well, I think I can cut the time down to 2hr 30 min to unlock a phone.

Wow. Well, since I am ALREADY tied to AT&T at the hip, there is o reason for me to do this. GL to whom ever tries and (hopefully) succeeds.

lol yeah no kidding. it'd be amazing if i would have waited a few months on the iphone... kept my sweet sprint contract ($95 plan for $40)... and just sent the service over to the iphone.
oh well. i'm not complaining. i've had an iphone since the day it came out and am very happy with it!

I wonder how apple is going to address this? Maybe some sort of lock to keep you from syncing to itunes. I mean all they have to do is have some sort of check to see if it is legit and bam "You cant sync with this phone Due to it's state. Please Contact AppleCare" And who wants an iphone that you can't use as a ipod?

Guess who made local news? That right geo. And it looks like AT&T and Apple are I'm big trouble. It was said that both won't comment on the break through. So it looks like we will be able to unlock our Iphone's by calling AT&T and requisting the code. No limited usages and more freedom from roming charges.
