Ridiculous iPhone Prices for India and Russia
About 5 days ago India kicked off it's iPhone sales on Airtel and Vodafone with a price of Rs 31,000 for the 8 GB model. In US dollars that is about $715 for the iPhone. The iPhone is pretty cool, but not quite that cool from where i sit. Apparently India agrees and Vodafone has been quick to respond dropping the price of the iPhone by a whole Rs 2,000 or $47. That still doesn't seem like much to me.
India isn't the only place with ridiculous iPhone prices. The iPhone is set to launch in Russia something in October for an estimated price of 24,000 Rubles or $990. What's going on Apple? I thought the plan was to dominate the world with iPhones. You'd have to be half insane to pay those prices!

Well Dude, its not about being insane, its the cards we get dealt with. I live in curacao and I got the 1st gen iphone for about 750$ a year ago . I live in a country where the cheapest iphone on the black market is around 800$ since we don't have a iphone retailer here. The companies gotta order them, pay shipping freights, pay taxes on that and then still make profit, So u can imagine how it goes. So when I see an iphone in the states for 200$ I'll have to triple that . to get my price.

Where I live you have to pay nearly the same price tag like in the US but in Euros... This is for all of Apples products and this is really a pain.
I paid for my Mac Pro 2499 Euros this are 3697.95 US Dollars.
On the US Apple online store the same Mac Pro costs 2799 USD...
This is what makes me going AWRRRRY... but thats the way it is.If I could help you with my answer give me a

Airtel's launch party happened right next to my place The entire place was flooded with only security guards :P 31 and 37k, cmon....the iPhone's gonna die out here, cause people are rarely willing to cross 20K ($480)...and some might stretch to 25K ($600)... but 31???
I say, someone out here should crack it and spit on their face...they are just ripping people off and Apple's doing nothing about it.
As for me I think I'll get it under O2 in UK next month :P

I got an original iPhone, bought it from O2, unlocked it for T-Mobile and now I'm back on O2, officially activated for any O2 sim, no stupid contract
I'm only 17 so I'm pretty skint and can't afford a contract
Thanks to £269 for iPhone and App Store

Writing from Dubai, UAE, where the iphone has never officially been lauched... But is widely sold, as it's not really illegal to sell it - or is it, the line between what's legal or not is surprisingly blurry on certain matters here.
When the 3G was launched the 1st gen iphones supplies dried up, and resulted in prices getting double to triple overnight. I've seen a first gen at 4500AED (1250 US$) last month.
Now the 3G is sold in store for as much as 7000AED, which is close to 2000 dollars... O_0 the best deal on local websites is 5000AED (1400 dollars).
And you know the worst? Over here there is such a hype about having the latest cell phone - and flashing your money - that everyone is buying it! (not me that is. happy with my first gen.)

hello from the philippines. 3g iphone just came out last saturday. according to some reports 600+ were sold in around 3hrs. launch party and all, where they counted down like it was new years eve. 12 midnight, the iphone went on sale. selling at 43-44k. roughly $950! although they did drop the price about a $100....
im keeping my 1st gen. no point is getting the 3g. dont have gps where i am, and i dont think i wanna pay the minute charges for 3g especially when everywhere you go is a hotspot.....so yeah, theres no difference.

Iam from bombay, india.
First they said pay a advance fee of rs 10,000 approx 250$ so I could the iPhone before anyone else then when I asked over the country when will I get the piece in my hand they said 3 days. So I asked when can someone buy it off the counter they replied 3 days again. So I asked what's the point of me giving the advance payment? A reply came " we assure u will get an iPhone then" or else you might not get one.
I took my adance back and walked away.
I've had the iPhone version 1.02 since a year now, upgraded to all version and on v2 now.
Iam happy using appstore and getting all my apps.
Anyway 3g is not started in India yet and gps is not like wow anyway.
But one thing there are too many stupid people with alot of following cash to waste!
I'll wait for Abit and see how it goes....

Anyways, these foreign prices explain why iphones go for such exorbitantly high prices on ebay. I saw an iPhone 3g go the day after I bought mine for 200 for about 2500 (usd). In any case, I'll definitely be goign this route once I get my iPhone 3rd gen in a year or so, lol Man that release is going to be confusing as hell, being as they refer to all 3rd gen iPods and such as '3G'. So it will be he iPhone 3G 3G, as opposed to the iPhone 3G 2G, or the iPhone 2G 1G......
