Seriously guys? Google "iTunes disable backup windows". It's the first hit. Is it a simple 'one-click' GUI? No, it isn't. However, it is a fairly easy and safe 'mod'. I bet that one could easily make a batch file to automate the process. And it will be like a taco inside a taco within a Taco Bell that's inside a KFC that's within a mall that's inside your dream!

Can someone please upload it here or somewhere else? Rapidshare seems to be down briefly

I second that - rapidshare doesn't work for me.

How to disable slow iTunes Backup for iPhone/ipod touch on Windows. its quick and easy. I did it a couple of weeks ago cause my iphone would backup every time i plugged it in, and if i waited for it to finish it would take at least 2-3 hours(I have about 100 apps).

Or for windows user, just click that "x" button that sits beside the "iPhone is currently syncing" after 2-3 seconds ur phone started to sync. it will stop the backup and sync your songs / apps / videos / photos right after.

Sounds helpful, I want to understand this correctly. I'm pretty sure if you cancel a backup, it's corrupted if you wanted to restore later right? If we disable backup we'll no longer have a canceled/corrupted copy cluttering things ups. We'll have one solid "full" backup and not have to worry about a quick unfinished backup overwritting the last few full ones correct?

I'm on MAC...and the "X" works finely for me...dont need another app...thanks though.

Another way to do this without the application (this way makes you feel smarter.....jk)
1. - Quit iTunes.
2. - Open Terminal.app (on your MAC and not on your iphone)
3. - Copy and paste this in, then hit return:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool true
(replace "true" with "false" to re-enable the back-up feature)

I have written a small FREE Windows program called "iPhone Backup Switch". The program will allow you to enable and disable the iPhone backup feature in iTunes. I have tested it pretty well in Windows XP and VISTA. There is a backup feature that will backup the iTunes configuration file and let you restore a previous version, if something goes wrong. Comes complete with installer and uninstaller.
Download it here.
Spread the word please!
