OpenClip: Ultimate Copy and Paste Solution for iPhone!
Cali Lewis from GeekBrief.tv shows us how the developers can beat the apple with it's own device without breaking any rules.
We've had many rumors of copy and paste for iPhone but none of them have proved to be true or were just limited to a single application. Even thought apple has already said that copy and paste is in their 'so-called' priority list but you have to wait for them. Well, no more!

And now is the time that copy and paste seems to be finally making it's way to iPhone in a bit- less official way...
If you remember, a few days before MagicPad was released but it just had the localized copy and paste. But, the story started when it's developer Juviwhalemet with a college student Zac White at a dev camp who turned this limited copy and paste solution into a cross application copy and paste functionality using the open-source OpenClip framework and the best part, it doesn't violate any rules by running in the background.
So, this means that any developer can add OpenClip in their app and gain access to the copy and paste pool to use the functionality. A site has been set-up to explain it's working.
Here's the proof of concept from Cali:
[ame="http://www.vimeo.com/1562944?pg=embed&sec=1562944"]Cut and Paste for iPhone on Vimeo[/ame]
Now, you might be thinking how does it work?
OpenClip utilizes a shared space on the iPhone. Application that use the openclip framework can access this open area to write and read from, allowing copy/ paste between participating apps. Here's an interview with the developer to know more about how it works.
Will Apple allow it in AppStore?
There's no way apple can deny it as it doesn't violate even a single law and moreover some applications using this framework are already present in the AppStore!
Currently only a few apps supports it but due to no pricetag (yes, it's free!) this functionality is going to spread like fire!!

Very nice. This is great news, too bad there isn't some way to install this universally...
Like some kind of injection into the keyboard.
But it's great anyways that someone is finally doing this. It always seems like someone does something great (like installer) then apple sees what people think then they copy it. And charge. (knowing them it'll be .50 a copy and .25 a paste...)

I would expect that within a couple weeks after the first app with this is put up on the appstore, there will be a tweak you can add on cydia to use it in Safari.
