Hey Folks,
Okay, I'm just at a complete loss. A little help would be great. I've given my fair share of it, a little back would be nice
Now, I've never had a problem jailbreaking my phone before, but I just can't seem to get this to work... I have an 8GB 1G iPhone, and I'm running XP. I fully uninstalled the old WinPwn, installed the new version, and I can create the custom firmware just fine. After it finishes creating, I use iPwner, and pwn iTunes. I am a master of DFU mode. The screen goes black, and I shift click restore in iTunes. I browse for the custom firmware, and it starts to prepare everything. (A small weird thing... My screen turns white, which is normal, but then my custom image comes up... My boot image, not my restore image... Just thought that was weird. Like they were flipped...) It "prepares the software for iPhone restore" for about 10 minutes, and then as soon as it starts to restore the software, I get this message, "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (6)". I click okay, and I get the iPhone detected in recovery mode message. I must restore with iTunes before I can use my iPhone... blah blah blah. I've done it numerous times with no luck. I'm soo lost here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks folks.

Ok one more time.. the same thing happened to me a lot.
THIS IS ALL U HAVE TO DO!
if your phone has the connect to itunes logo, hold the home+power button for about 10 or more seconds.. while you're still holding them your phone will reboot and turn off again in about 1 second.. AS SOON AS IT TURNS BACK OFF RELEASE THE POWER BUTTON AND KEEP HOLDING THE HOME BUTTON. your computer+itunes will recognize the phone in recovery mode and your phone will seem as if it's turned off. IF YOUR SCREEN ISNT BLACK U MUST TRY DOING IT AGAIN. THE TIMING IS TRICKY

These are my exact steps I did and had no problems.
Had 2.0 pwned.
Updated my iPhone through iTunes to 2.0.1 (lost my pwned/jailbroken state phone)
made a new custom firmware for 2.0.1 through winpwn
pwned iTunes through winpwn
Then last through iTunes restored my iPhone to my custom 2.0.1 firmware
Success, Have installer and Cydia again!
I have 1gen iPhone with 7.7 iTunes and XP32bit with service through AT&TLast edited by HitNWakes; 08-11-2008 at 01:46 PM.

I had my phone previously unlocked and jailbroken via PwnageTool 2.0 on my mac which worked fine. I then wanted to upgrade to firmware 2.0.1 so I decided to try WinPwn this time on my PC and see how that worked. Well I used the sleepers.net winpwn guide as a reference and did everything as they said and the first time I used itunes to restore my iphone (which was in DFU mode) I got the error 6 message. I then tired to restore it again through itunes this time my phone in recovery mode (not in DFU mode) and everything worked fine. So this worked for me might as well give it a try and see if you have the same results

thanks for the reply...installed both and followed instructions....still the same, 1.1.4 scrolling is smooth, 2.0.1 with skippings....would increasing the OS memory size from default 500MB to a higher value (winpwn 2.0.0.4) )sort it out? i mean its not a big issue, just would like to sort this issue out...
thanks again for your reply...

Does upgrading to 2.0.1 firmware erase all the Native Apps installed through Cydia via 2.0? Am I missing some step? After restore, I got everything back except the Native Apps. Only Cydia is present on my springboard. (I had so many Native Apps... Oh the horror of reinstalling...)

Winpwn needs at least 300MB of ram to run, so if you have other programs running or your computer doesn't have the needed ram Winpwn will crash when it is making a custom firmware. So try closing all other programs and give it another go around...

which is the best guide to use? there are about 3 that i know. if you got successfull which guide did u use? i was using the iclarfied version and i got to the step where it said itunes was pwnd.
i was wondering if are you suppose to have ur iphone connected and have itunes open the whole time until you reach the part that tells you itunes is pwned? or do you leave itunes open and then when it says ur itunes i pwned then you connect ur iphone and then put it in dfu mode?
when i got to that step my itunes closed itself and i reopened it and then after my phone was done syncing i tried putting it in dfu mode but no luck? i dont know if its cause i had to open it again or i messed up that step some how.
i am also having trouble with dfu... i dont know if its cause my sleep/wake button is kinda jammed. i am able to use it but i have to press it a certain way... i hold on to both for 10 sec and when it goes black i hold home button for like 10 more sec but nothing comes up and nothing gets recognized in itunes. please help i was soo close to pwning my 1.1.3 jailbroken iphone to 2.0.1 firmware. any helped with be thanked!Last edited by toawkanavngthded; 08-11-2008 at 04:10 PM.
