XP and it's keeps crashing...
Right when it's adding installer package and almost finalizing setup (custom IPSW building), it CRASHES!!
I tried to change the location where winpwn is installed and also the location where I'm installing the custom-ipsw file (system drive or external drive)! .... still CRASHES at the same part of the installation process...
PLEASE HELP!!!!
Regards,
Abe

First time i lost the phone so then i removed the "sim" card and all went perfect, on a side note i see some people are partitioning over the 550mb and i thought i share this from: » Winpwn 2.0 Guide - iPhone News & Review
Step 8: Partition resizer. Here is the partition resizer screen. With the current version fo Winpwn, move this to 550 mb. The extra packages will fill the root partition before Cydia gets to run and move things about. Do not make it any larger though because Cydia moves your apps around properly to the larger partition so if you resize this larger here you are just losing space.

Windows Vista
16g 3g
used 512mb
cydia only (finally worked)
Tried many times kept getting different errors. Un-click installer and I'm now restoring on a successful pwnage. Will try with installer when it's 100%.

Must admit, this was the easiest one to sort out. I've tried pwning before - never worked well for me.
I have Vista and an 8gb iPhone 3g on firmware 2.0.1
I followed BigBoss guide on the winpwn 2.0.0.4. As I am on O2 with iPhone contract, i simply ticked cydia and installer only. Left everything else blank. Built the .ipsw and used itunes. Might help, as on the bigboss site there are two ways of getting into DFU. I used the phone off first method. Worked like a charm, no errors at all.
The only error I encountered was when I tried to reinstall my backup - it didnt work and kept giving me an error.
All runs fine now though.

Don't restore from backup after pwning. Just setup as a new phone. You won't lose contacts or music since iTunes will sync those back. You'll have to setup the mail account again but it will work.
I'm not a PC person but I believe Error 6 relates to a failure in USB communication with the iPhone (i.e. the connection drops with the phone). Of the various solutions, switching USB ports, especially do not use a hub and connect directly to the PC seems to work best. Also, uninstalling iTunes, removing the "C
Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support" directory and then reinstall seems to always work.
One trick to set the partition size to something large is not a reasonable solution and I believe it to be a coincidence.Last edited by imode; 08-10-2008 at 05:38 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

For everyone having problems with the Mail try this first before restoring again and again:
Install BossPrefs from Cydia if you don't have it already, there's an option in BossPrefs to fix the User permissions in the iPhone.
Do that and your Mail should work again, that fixed it for me.
