I first restored mine from back up and then got that screen that asked it again I just unplugged my phone rebooted the computer and plugged it back in and Itunes recognized it and didn't ask me to restore. everything worked except e-mail. has anyone restored it from back up only and had it work or do I have to go through this twice as lostwhiteboy suggested.

Muggz5: Ok guys you all getting the white screen is not a bad thing, this means you got into DFU properly. So, when you get the white screen, error 6 etc etc try closing itunes, unplugging the device and replug either into a different port or the same one and shift restore again. You dont have to put the phone into DFU again leave it as it is. Unless for some reason the phone restarted itself. This may take a couple attempts, but this worked for me in the past.. By the way If this does work, thank me or at the very least confirm it here so we know it wasnt just a fluke 5 times on different phones for me and my pc.
Thanks to all of you for your comments and I hope my testimony is useful for others.Be good... Thanks.

"Yea, so you updated to 2.0.2 and hooked up to iTunes. Everything seemed to be goign well you thought. It found your backup and asked you to restore it. Phew, you won’t have to reenter your contacts so you’re happy. Your restore your backup its working.
Later you hook up to iTunes to add some songs and it is asking you again, do you want ot restore your backup or set up as a new phone. What the heck? Didn’t we already do this? This seems to be happening to lots of folks. The solution is simple.
To solve this, after you do your initial backup restore, just set up the phone as new. It shouldn’t ask you again after this. You won’t lose your contacts either because you already synced them on from the first backup restore."

Ok so i have a iphone 3g. I succesfully made a ipsw with winpwn. I checked cydia and installer, aswell as the youtube option. I unchecked the the activation option aswell. After installing 2.0.1 I have no AT&T service. i have done everything that has been suggested. How can i get service back?
Oh and before you say you should have only checked cydia and installer NOt the youtube option...winpwn will always faill building a ipsw that way.

Of course this has been posted several times however I wanted to add it here again, just in case there are still a few with previous pwned 2.0 phones out there. I just did 2 phones in a matter of 15 minutes.
I put the phones in normal restore mode not DFU (power off, hold Home + Plug in, until custom logo pops up or the "plug into itunes" logo) Open itunes, shift + restore to custom firmware I downloaded from Here
Watch the magic. Dont unplug or mess with the phone until it goes to "Edit Home Screen" Leave your sim cards in, its just fine... The Auto Settings will show up, let it do its thing. Enjoy!
Its quick and painless and didnt even download the new winpwn.
Thanks alot Devteam and everyone else involved.

I restored from backup - all email passwords were transferred.General consensus is that you are not supposed to do that, but I have 2 1st gens to play with so I tried it for a goof and it worked. It took about an hour to restore from backup.

After 6 or 7 complete restores I am ready to pull my hair out. It goes perfectly every time......until I restore the backup of my phone. It freezes after reboot and will not come out of it. Only way out so far is a complete restore again! I keep trying cuz I want my saved texts back and some stuff I have in notes. I have read everything everywhere and although others have had backup problems I have not seen this one and solution for it. Any ideas???

08-10-2008, 12:19 AM #218Hellooo!
It's kinda quiet in here. Is there any reason to pwnage to 2.01 firmware? My iPhone is running flawlessly on 2.0.

Actually there are a few bug fixes for 2.0 and So far this seems to be running even better. Check out installer its a nice interface. It has a few bugs in it but Cydia is great anyway. I just posted a few minutes ago, I went through how to do the new pwn easily without using winpwn.... Its worth it to me.
