Question: I just upgraded my original 2g iphone from 2.0 pwned (2.0.1 pwnagetool) to 2.0.1 pwned (2.0.2 pwnagetool). After having installing it and all, it asked on itunes if I wanted to restore from a previous backup or something, so I selected it and thought all of my previous iphone settings would stick, but it looks like everything was back to default mode. All it did was basically sync the applications that I used to have. By settings, I'm talking about everything I had in settings, as well as every application setting as well.

Is this what is supposed to happen? It took forever for me to set all of my original settings back again...will people always have to do this when a new firmware is released, even when legitimate AT&T iphone users update it?

No... because legit users (which btw is more carriers than AT&T) only have to hit "update" which simply updates the OS and doesn't touch the data. It's only when you "restore" that data has to be restored from backup

You can recover from Restore Mode without restoring. Hold down on the power button till the apple logo turns on.

For Windows 3G owners with already Pwned iPhones.

1. Downloaded custom FW from .Mac - iDisk
--then unpackaged the file and placed on desktop

2. Opened iTunes (newest version)

3. Set phone to recovery mode (DFU)

4. Shift clicked restore button in iTunes, pointed to the new 2.0.1 firmware

5. had a bite to eat, smoked, came back to the pc with Itunes open asking me to restore my backup. chose the latest backup date which was yesterday for me.

6. had another smoke

7. came back to a freshly re-pwnt iphone 3g with 2.0.1 cydia and installer

simple enough.

can i use this method if i have an iphone 3g that isnt already pwned and has apple firmware 2.0.1???

Thanks mmomega for that i may try it later Now can anyone tell me this, i heard that if you go to 2.0.1 then you will no longer be able to put cracked apps on it like super monkey ball, but if you have existing cracked apps on it then they still work in 2.0.1 Is this true?

There are two types of "cracks" for AppStore apps.

1 - The app was cracked
2 - MobileInstallation was patched (in that case you can install original apps - just copy them from another iPhone or get the .ipa file and install via iTunes)

Cracked apps should work on 2.0.1

For the second case, you may need to wait for a new MobileInstallation patch

when u are in dfu mode the only way to turn the phone back on is to restore the phone u must have been in recovery mode trust me.

to enter dfu :

> Plug in your iPhone.
> Turn it off.
> Press and hold the Home and the Power buttons simultaneously for exactly 10 seconds.
> Release the Power button but keep the Home button pressed for 10 more seconds. You needn't be exact here. Just keep the Home button pressed until the device switches to DFU mode.
> Release the Home button after the 10 seconds have passed.

and for second question - you hold down the shift button while clicking restore to open a dialog box to select the new 2.0.1 firmware

dont update to 2.0.1 first because apparantly this changed the baseband of the 3g phone and could render it un unlockable. so just proceed with just 2.0

Just hold down home and sleep for 30 seconds, this will take your iPhone out of DFU mode. I think the apple logo should appear if your out of dfu mode.

You can usually restore to the custom firmware in recovery mode, well you could on original iPhone.

You usually get error 1601 when trying to install custom firmware in DFU mode without iTunes being pwned but if you put your iPhone into recovery mode and then restore to the custom firmware, it goes fine, well it has for me and many people.

DFU rarely works with custom firmware, usually a lot of peoples error 16xx's are solved by putting iPhone into recovery mode and then restoring to the custom firmware.
