If you have a 2g phone you don't have to wait as long as you're ok with losing installer. Upgraded a pwned 2.0 to 2.0.1 and it remained unlocked and works perfect.

Okay I took the just returned to 2.0 3G and did a direct restore from the file in iTunes and it appears to have worked. The phone is now on 2.0.1 and jailbroke...Cydia running okay and I'm able to install apps. Oh and after the restore I was able to update the phone from a backup. I think that the backup was an old 2.0.1 backup that I had done while the phone was originally upgraded to 2.0.1 It looks like iTunes keep 6 different backups that I can see, at least on my setup.
Keeping my fingers crossed as I continue to test.
Cheers,
Joe

There are 3 rar files (1,2,3) that you need to create the restore.ipsw that you'll use.
Here's my story:
1. 3G phone that was orginally on 2.0 and jailbroken. I upgrade to 2.0.1 and lost the jailbrake so I then took it back to 2.0 and jailbroke. It still had the modem software as 01.48.02 which I believe was installed with the update to 2.0.1.
2. Downloaded the 3 files and unrared them into one ipsw file.
3. Opened iTunes and plugged the 3G in. Did a SHIFT-RESTORE in iTunes and selected the unrared ipsw file.
4. iTunes chugged along doing a restore. As it neared the end it just suddenly stopped and the phone rebooted. It appear to hang up with the pineapple symbol showing so I closed iTunes and rebooted (HOME-POWER) the phone. I turned it on and after 4 mins or so (with the pineapple showing) it came up to the home screen. Cydia on the screen Yea!
5. I then plugged it back in with iTunes running and iTunes asked me if I wanted to restore the phone from a previous backup. I selected the default backup (the dropdown menu gave me an option of 6 old backups.) Worked like a charm and came up as it was since my last backup.
6. Cydia works, winterboard, boss prefs, etc.
cheers

I've just updated my iPhone 2G that was on Firmware 2.0 to the official 2.0.1 firmware and my cracked Apple Store apps and games are still there with my music, photos and videos... is this new? I thought an update would always format your iPhone and make you re-sync your files again. Is this new?
Only problem is I can't play the cracked Games & apps
I need OpenSSH to fix this! :/

PwnageTool 2.0.2 will be out today. Why not wait and do it the "official" way?

Anyone gonna mirror the files please, can't get rapidshare to work, might be a problem with amount of downloads or my ISP, who knows.
Thanks

I can confirm that 2.0.1 firmware works for the 3G phone also. The only thing I don't like about it is the pineapple logo upon boot, but everything works, both appstore apps and cydia things I have installed (mxtube, intelliscreen, boss prefs) and the phone is much more responsive with the update. I guess they needed a couple more weeks to tweak everything.
When the tools are updated I may re-pwn it to get the apple logo back, but its not a big issue, just a personal thing.
