WinPwn 2.5 Preview

Only a week after releasing version 2.0, cmw, (the creator of WinPwn) has posted pictures on his website of the latest version of his jailbreaking/unlocking software: WinPwn 2.5.
With a release "hopefully very soon", jailbreaking and unlocking will be even easier (and prettier!) for Windows users. Who knows, maybe Installer 4.0 will be finished by the release of this update.
More pictures and updates to follow.

Will it unlock iPhone 3G?

I got my 1st gen iphone working with winpwn version 2.0.0.3. Unless the 2.5 has some REALLY innovative features I'm not gonna re-restore my iphone.

its not going to bring any new features
if your phone has already been pwned there is no point of using the new version
its just making it easyier for ppl and if installer is out in time it wil give u the option to install either installer or cyndia looks pretty neat tho
i still need to find out if its safe to use winpwn when you already have a legit unlocked 3g iphone (im from aus)
im afraid if i restore the phone its going to loose the lock ???
can any one fill me in on that oneLast edited by FramedTrash; 08-01-2008 at 06:20 AM. Reason: stoned

well, if it's 3G then it won't unlock. If 2G it will unlock! So you have not given much info, so I'll try to answer.
You have a iPhone you bought on contract? And you ha e valid service in aus?
You can still run the program. But again depending what you have and what your try to do it may or may not work. This is made to unlock for use onnother carriers! But you don't have to unlock it! That is an option! If you want to run cydir you can! Just check that off in winpwn and your set'

noo
i have a prepaid 3g iphone thats been unlocked from the carrier
in Aus you can get prepaid phones and then pay the carrier and they unlock them for you no need to run hacks its all legit
my question is if i restore the phone and pwn it will i loose the unlock and have to go back to my carrier to get it unlocked
or is all info stored on like a apple server and it checks to see if its unlocked when you activate

why does everyone want 3g unlocked so bad, it won't even work at 3g speeds!!! AT&T is the only network in US or pretty much north America that has a 3g frequency. You will be forcedto use the edge network thus defeating the whole purpose of even having the phone. Dont bother with overseas unlocked either, their 3g frequency is different from USA.... It's a dead end. Stick with AT&T or get 1st gen iphone andstop complaining. Props to dev team for their work and geohot for his insights.

I also have a legit unlocked iphone 3g in norway. I payed the carrier to release me from the contract and they unlocked my phone so I can use it with any carrier I want.
I also want to know if I pwn my phone will it still be unlocked??

@gafu, haha...its unfortunate that they passed on the deal..all their phones are terrible. Every phone they have is overpriced and their customer service is trash. People want to choose their phone i.e. get an unlocked phone. My point was directed at GSM phones not CDMA. I know geohot references an amplifier chip but that is never going to be explored to the point of CDMA and the frequencies would never match. To be honest think of the math involved in getting a new 3g iPhone on ebay and such...way over priced. You can get your hands on a first gen for cheaper anywhere online then just pwn it. The point of the new phone is to enhance network speed, if they released a new phone with a different back, the hype would not be as large. since the phone is sig checked on start up, unlocking the phone would maybe last once and after it was restarted the sig check would block it and re-lock it.

I dont know the specs on the chipset that apple is using but you could unlock the 3g band frequency technically and use the various 3G networks nation wide. just my 2 cents unless you have to physically go into the iphone and put it a different frequency 3G chip.... now thats a friggin hack there lol
refer to my previous post.... same situation as our aussie friendLast edited by pfcfury; 08-01-2008 at 03:58 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
