If I read the instructions correctly, he doesn't mention anything about opening up the phone. Is this correct, or am I missing something? And where do I find this prey tell "3.9 nor" file?

So you load the files to the phone (I'm guessing using ssh) then install mobile terminal, then follow the instruction and install the new booktloader?

Sounds like a software hack to me, just more towards the hardware end of the spectrum.

Is it really great , but the software , it doesn't look like its omming out soon I mean since this post no actuvity . Is there any news on it ? I am debating whether to buy the ***simcard or to wait .

They'll probably software unlock 1.1.3 before they do it on 1.1.2

Might not be that big of a stretch... look at the forums all the posts are about the 1.1.3 jailbreak... they'll probably come out with a 1.1.3 unlock first...

I hope by then we can just upgrade to 1.1.3 and unlock... (as opposed to 1.1.2 OTB users being the ONLY ones that can't be unlocked... like ever)...

With the new 1.1.3 upgrade the HW unlock for 1.1.2 has fallen (well in Hong Kong anyway)... I may actually go get a HW unlock... I've been on the recieving end of so much ridicule from friends and family to my iphone/ipod touch... even my ex-, who've got his iphone later than me has his phone unlocked (hardware unlock)... who cares that the HW unlock won't last through the 1.1.3 upgrade... right now I want my phone to work!! /cry
